Fresh Kid Ice (2 Live Crew) Dead at 53

Fresh Kid Ice -- founding member of 2 Live Crew, and a pioneer for Asian rappers, died in Miami ... TMZ has learned.

Fresh Kid formed the legendary hip-hop crew with DJ Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee in 1984, and hooked up with Luther Campbell later when they signed with his record label. According to the group's manager he died at 7:50 AM Thursday in a Miami hospital ... due to a medical condition.
Won's agent, DJ DBo, told CNN that he had been dealing with health issues recently, but did not elaborate.

Fresh Kid's real name was Chris Wong Won ... and he and the group became poster children for First Amendment Rights after their "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" album was the first to be labeled legally obscene by the government.

He and Campbell were arrested in 1990 after a live performance police deemed obscene and lewd.

Fresh Kid served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years before getting into music. He went on to form his own label ... Chinaman Records.

Uncle Luke tweeted condolences ...

I was 15 and living in Miami when their first album dropped. It swept through South Florida like a tsunami. Every party, every beach hangout, everywhere you went, 2 Live Crew Is What We Are was on someone's stereo. Hell I was mostly a rock/metal kid but I loved that album to death.

RIP Kid Ice

I assume we can't post most of their songs here.

A guy in the neighborhood who was a friend at that time back in the 80's had 2 Live Crew Is What We Are on cassette and they had some catchy beats.

Everybody probably knows them for the big controversry over Banned in the U.S.A.

If the lyrics represented his life he probably lived life to the fullest.

Nasty As They Wanna Be was the only rap album I ever bought, since I wanted to hear what all the fuss was about. Listened to it with headphones so my parents couldn't hear, and laughed hysterically.

Sad he did not leave behind a great legacy if only three people replied to this thread.

I would bet more on that side that people haven't heard of his death. Besides, this forum represents a minute percentage of the population but the largest percentage of the population of extreme wealth and being well endowed.

Was he born with a broken arm? Maybe that's what finally did him in.
