Re: 2016 Grammy Nominations Announced
No big surprises here. If Adele had released "Hello" like two weeks earlier, she would be all over the nominations, but the timing works against her this year. As a result, it looks like potentially a big year for Taylor Swift for her 2014 album 1989. I'm glad at least they went with the solid single Blank Space instead of the repetitive and insipid "Bad Blood".

While we're on the subject of strange classifications, how is this nominated for Best Rock Song?

I hope that Alabama Shakes can pull off the upset (?) for Album of the Year. There have been some recent winners of that award who were not nominated in the big Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories.

Rock category are all kinds of 'what the what?'
And can we really have a Best Rock Album win without Foo Fighters? I thought that was theirs for the taking every year?
And sorry, that "Ex's & Oh's" song is only played on the hip hop stations around here.

I honestly either don't know or haven't heard (the songs) of 90% of those nominees. Their Rock and Metal categories have almost always been a joke though. Their oddball "new" artist rules have always mystified me as well.

The Grammys lost ALL their credibility when they gave awards to THIS:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RdSmokR0Enk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
And they haven't learned a damn thing since then.

Sleater - Kinney and FFS not getting any nominations shows me that the nominators aren't looking very hard.

Re: 2016 Grammy Nominations Announced
Grammys are geared toward higher selling artist correct? If not only two of those metal albums would make the top 10 of the year (LOG and Ghost). Between the Buried and Me and Panopticon released what will be considered classic metal albums in the future this year and they weren't alone. It really has been a banner year for the genre.

Re: 2016 Grammy Nominations Announced
Sevendust isn't metal.
Courtney Barnett isn't a new artist.
Jason Isbell should've been nominated for best album, not just best Americana album.
I don't get how Florence + The Machine can be nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Rock Performance.

So "Wildest Dreams" by Taylor Swift is not nominated? That song is much better than Blank Space.
The Weeknd should probably win most of the categories he is nominated for though his best songs "In the Night" and "The Hills" are not nominated.
I think for the first time ever the Grammys will air live on the West Coast at 5pm with a replay at 8:30pm
I guess people complained since every other major awards show including the Golden Globes now air live on the West Coast.
The American Music Awards and The Tony's might be the exceptions.

I feel bad for the host trying to tap dance and stall for time after trying to toss to Taylor Swift 90 seconds early.
