I had barely remembered this from when I was a kid. I just vaguely remembered the ending. Decided to get it on BD for BF. Was like 5 bucks.
I liked it. It tries to do something different w/ the whole going werewolf thing. It gets a bit on cheesy side w/ how Spader's character goes but it does take itself seriously. I also think Pffeifer's character doesn't do much for it. Nicholson though is rocking it in the manner that a book editor can. Loved the little details of his evolution.

Fucking loved it. I remember watching it in theaters when World Cup '94 was here in L.A. - I thought it was a terrific flick and so unlike Mike Nichols to do something like that but watching I can get the sensibility behind. I love the drama and publishing aspects of it. This, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Branagh's Frankenstein make for a great triple threat.
Also - this was when Nicholson was younger and looked like fucking Wolverine. He could have totally sold it as the "Patch" version. Hell, at the end it's practically Wolverine Vs. Sabertooth in that regard. Rick Baker did great work on the flick.

Yeah. The Book publishing side is actually interesting, I thought that was funny. That I actually cared what this guy did.

I've always wanted to see a copy of the original script, as it was clearly heading towards a different ending where Michelle Pheiffer's character was a werewolf from the beginning (the one who bit Jack maybe even?).
The finished film still has little threads leading to this missing storyline like when she yells at Jack for frightening the horses, unaware he doesn't know he's a werewolf yet. The most glaring loose end is the scene where Michelle shows Jack a picture of her brother and says he was "a schizophrenic who committed suicide".

Oh wow. I thought she was just a wolf herself due to Jack biting her at some point during sex.
I may have to fire this up now. I'd also like to read the original script. Is it online somewhere?
