WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (2014) (dir. Clement, Waititi) (vampire mockumentary)

Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) - three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life's obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

This just seemed to hit Blu-Ray here in the U.S.

For me, this is the third best film I've seen this year and when compared to other mockumentaries, honestly puts most of Guest's most recent stuff to shame.

Watched this recently. Absolutely killed me; very funny. Manages to stay great right up to the end. This would've been one of my top ten for 2014.

Loved this. Got a chance to finally see it this weekend. Incredibly quotable and I loved Petyr and Stu as characters. I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off with the werewolves at some point.

I loved this as well. Caught me off-guard as I wasn't sure what to expect.

This is on Amazon Prime (and has been for a long time).

Four years later, I got around to watching it. Better than I expected. I expected less from the Office/Christopher Guest format. Probably why I put it off for so long.

I'd recommend you guys take a look.

In addition to a sequel to this titled We're Wolves, there will be...

A TV reboot is coming to FX: http://deadline.com/2018/01/what-we-...ot-1202266583/

They are also doing a TV spinoff with the police detectives Mike Minogue and Karen O'Leary, who were hypnotized by Waititi's Viago, called Wellington Paranormal: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/12/...ton-paranormal

I really love this movie. Didnt care for it too much the first time, but gets better on repeat viewings. I have watched it at least 50 times now and it still cracks me up and feels fresh. I have no interest in thr show about the cops and the reboot TV show doesnt sound great, but been waiting for that proposed sequel.

There are two Blu-ray releases for this. One considerably higher than the other. The one with all extras is like $38 or so. My question is…are the two versions identical? The newer has all the extras? Thanks in advance. I can tell you now, the cheaper version does not have any extras, but I rectified that by not even realizing i owned the older version.

Cheaper one is a BD-R 25. The more expensive one is a BD-50. If the former has all the content of the latter, I assume everything might suffer from noticeable compression. Other than that...

My wife and I love the show, it's one of the few modern shows that get the repeat treatment, but we've never seen the movie. I know it's a different cast, but I assume the vibe is the same or similar?

Very similar. If you like the show, there’s no reason you wouldn’t like the film.

what's funny is that i seem to have the Canadian version. Don't know how or why, but it is Canadian and it does have all the extras the cheaper one doesn't.

Wasn't there a very minor crossover in the show with some of the characters from the movie in one episode?

Yeah I believe that was in the first season. They were part of the Vampiric Council.
