Target return policy - 30 days now for Electronics and Entertainment items

I had no idea they changed their policy until I tried to return a blu ray last night that I bought in January. I hardly ever keep my receipts because if I ever have to return anything I just swipe my card, but I guess it shows the new return date at the bottom of the receipt? Anyways, say goodbye to the 90 day (or 120 day if using a Red Card) return policy.

From their site: "All Electronics and Entertainment items must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange. For these items purchased between 11/1 – 12/25, the 30-day refund period will start on 12/26."

Well that stinks. I bought a bunch of stuff during the holidays that I planned to return this weekend, thinking that I had my usual 120 days.

Depending on when this new policy began, isn't there a case to be made for Target honoring the original return policy in effect at the time of purchase?

I returned a movie I bought in early December with the old policy just a few weeks ago. I'd be surprised if this wasn't just going forward.

Unless you're looking for money back does it even matter? Can't you return stuff indefinitely for store credit?

I just looked at my Target receipts from earlier this month and there is still the full 90 day return period on the blurays... Looks like they haven't updated their systems to print out the correct return dates yet.

I had no idea about this too, good to know. I assumed it was 90 days for everything still.

I'm not as upset by this news as I was when they changed the Icee refill policy.

Everytime I pass their cafés I think of that thread.

So do red card members get 60 days instead of 30?

I don't believe so. I bought Frozen on Tuesday with my Red Card and it says the return window closes on 4/17. Did the old receipts tack on the extra 30 days automatically?

I'd go with this. If your receipt states the 90 day policy, then they should be honoring that.

Most tragic of days.

But this new policy blows. I thought they wanted to get customers back after getting hacked?

Honestly do that many of you guys buy stuff and hold onto it for that long before deciding to return it anyways? Maybe if you're doing that you should re-think what you're buying in the first place.

Is this to prevent rebuys and returns once prices lower?

Correct, it was done as a way to prevent people buying media items the first week at full price and then eventually doing a rebuy and return at a much lower price. Corporations don't like giving money away, Target is really hurting in the wake of the credit card breach.

We have almost certainly passed Target's peak as a national company. They had built their brand up for years as a better and safer place than Walmart, but that was completely destroyed in December.

Sadly, I agree. I've now gone back to Walmart for those times when I need something *right now* and can't order it in time from the 'net.
