Separate thread for this as there is peaked interest with this series in multiple threads. Sentai Filmworks is releasing TV+OVA collection on DVD and Blu-ray (OVA only on DVD as well). Original release date was October 29, 2013. It was delayed to December 10, 2013. Some retailers like RightStuf.com are shipping the Blu-ray set already. The TV+OVA DVD set (and also OVA only set) is supposedly shipping weeks later. For those who want watch part the series (so far), it's streaming on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/gatchaman-tv) with more episodes added here and there.

Gatchaman TV+OVA Set packaging is as described before: sturdy slipcase closer to cardboard (definitely not chipboard).

I just received a shipping notice for this set from Amazon.ca. Nice unexpected surprise considering that this set is supposed to come out in December.

Just noticed that Hulu+ has the old episodes of Battle of the Planets. 72 out of 85 episodes.
