21 Jump Street 2 Set for 2014

First announced before the original even hit theaters, Sony Pictures has set 21 Jump Street 2 for release in 2014, it was revealed today at the studio's CinemaCon presentation. There's no specific date listed as of yet, but a logo was included as part of Sony's 2014 slate.
The 2012 action comedy, inspired by (and loosely continuing) the hit television series, starred Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as police officers Schmidt and Jenko. Joining law enforcement's secret Jump Street unit, they made use of their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. Trading in their guns and badges for backpacks, the pair risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring, quickly learning that modern high school is a very different world than the one they recently left. The film earned $202 million at the worldwide box office.
Hill and Michael Bacall will again provide the screenplay with production likely to begin later this year.

I'm with everyone else. First one was great, pumped for the second. The chemistry with Tatum and Hill was great so hopefully they return for the second. I'd be surprised if they didn't.

No Lord and Miller, no sale.
While I loved the first one, I would say Lord and Miller's contributions are far greater than Hill and Bacall's.

When a film like “21 Jump Street” winds up becoming such a huge hit ($200 million worldwide, to be more specific), the talk of a sequel is very much inevitable. But unlike many other films, thanks to the great chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, we welcome any news regarding a potential “21 Jump Street” sequel. And while directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have certainly kept themselves busy with the upcoming animated film “The Lego Movie,” it sounds like they are definitely on board.
Producer Neal Moritz recently talked with Collider regarding “21 Jump Street” sequel news, and he’s not only confirmed that it’s happening, he says shooting is set to begin this fall. He also confirms that Phil Lord and Chris Miller “are attached to direct the movie, we’re actively developing the script with them. Right now we’ve got a first draft that we’re pleased and the second draft is coming along.”
Moreover, Moritz has given us a little taste of what we can expect from the Jump Street sequel: "It leads off where we ended the last film and our guys are going to college. Now, I can’t tell you more than that because there’s some fun to be had in what college they’re going to and what’s going to happen. It really just starts there. The relationship developed quite a bit in the first movie and now we’re kind of in the marriage phase between the two guys. Now they’re actual partners, so they’re married – what happens once marriage starts? In certain ways, it’s kind of like 'The Seven Year Itch' of police buddy comedies." That's good enough for us.
Michael Bacall, who wrote the screenplay to the first film, is back working on the script for the sequel with Jonah Hill. And while we’re excited, Sony is even more thrilled. They’re planning on giving “21 Jump Street 2” a summer 2014 release date.

Lord and Miller are as essential to this as Tatum and Hill.

The first one was shockingly entertaining. But I'm not sure if 2 can capture that same magic.

It depends heavily on the directors, if they get Lord and Miller back it'll be solid, I've been impressed with their work thus far.

A minor yet amusing piece of news regarding the 21 Jump Street sequel has been announced. Embedded in a press release that announced a remake of the French film A Prophet produced by Neal Moritz, Sony has revealed that the title of the Jump Street sequel will be, appropriately enough, 22 Jump Street. Not too much is known about the follow-up as of now, but directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are expected to return, and the story will find Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s characters infiltrating a college campus. Moreover, Moritz previously told us that Ice Cube will indeed be reprising his fantastic role as Captain Dickson. 22 Jump Street will open in theaters on June 13, 2014.

Wyatt Russell (Cowboys & Aliens, We Are What We Are) has joined the cast of 22 Jump Street, the Sony comedy sequel directed by returning helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Russell will play a college student named Zook in the pic opposite Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. The 21 Jump Street sequel is already slotted for a June 13, 2014 release. Russell is currently shooting Cold in July with Michael C. Hall and will play Bobby Orr in the indie NHL pic Turk opposite Ed Burns and Logan Marshall-Green. Russell is repped by UTA.

Is Hill losing weight again for this one? He looked back to his old size in This is the End.

I'm surprised at all the love for the first one kind of. I thought it was okay but nothing that special. I might see the sequel depending on the previews.

As somebody who doesn't like most comedies these days, I was pleasantly surprised with 21 Jump Street. I'd gladly check out a sequel unless it gets reviews on par with The Hangover 2.

I googled Wyatt Russell because he wasn't ringing any bells regarding him being in Cowboys & Aliens. Apparently he played a character called Little Mickey. I have that movie on BD and have watched it numerous times. I don't recall a character named Little Mickey. Was he just some extra in Daniel Craig's old gang or Harrison Ford's posse?
