Gerard Butler Will Not Return for ’300: Battle of Artemisia’
I hope you didn’t want to see Gerard Butler in 300: Battle of Atremisia, because it ain’t his thang. His words, not mine.
MTV caught up with King Leonidas while he was doing press for his surfing movie Chasing Mavericks.
Here’s what he said:
“Oh, yeah, I’m not doing it.
“They’re filming [the '300' sequel] right now. I wish them the best, but it didn’t [work out]. It wasn’t really my thing.”
What exactly isn’t his thing? Following up his best and most popular role? Being in a bad ass balls to the wall action flick? Maybe he just wants more time to make terrible romantic comedies with Katherine Heigl and Jennifer Aniston?
When I hear an actor say something like “It wasn’t really my thing” I think it can usually be translated into “they didn’t want to pay me what I thought I deserved.”
Oh well, It would have been cool if Butler returned, but I don’t think it will make or break the film.
300: Battle of Artemisia hits theatres August 2, 2013.

Wait...I thought this was a sequel to 300. So it's a Prequel?
Either way I wasn't interested when I heard of this film at the start...and also didn't think Butler was going to be in it either, cuz I thought it was a sequel. So i'm back where I started wrong or right. lol.

So if it's a sequel then his character wouldn't even be in it.

Didn't he get hurt and then addicted to painkillers because of 300? If that's the case, I could understand his reasoning. But my guess is it was a money thing.

This one needs more muscled, shirtless men. The first one wasn't nearly homoerotic enough!

The battle of Artemisia was fought at the same time as Thermopylae, but it involved the Athenian navy keeping the Persian navy from landing an army behind the Greek's at thermopylae. I'm not sure how they could have incorporated Leonidas since he was fighting on land and this is a sea battle. But interested to see this flick, since I enjoyed 300.

The 300 Sequel is Now Titled 300: Rise of an Empire
Rumored to be getting a new title for some time, Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming 300 sequel is now called 300: Rise of an Empire. It was formerly known as 300: The Battle of Artemisia.
Currently in production, the Noam Murro films stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Rodrigo Santoro, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O'Connell and Andrew Tiernan and is planned for release on August 2, 2013.
The movie, a follow-up to Zack Snyder's 2006 original (in turn based on Frank Miller's 1998 comic book miniseries), is expected to tell, in part, the story of Greek General Themistocles, who lead Athens against Persian invaders in a battle that played out simultaneously with the Battle of Thermopylae (depicted in the first film).
