What's the best ALIEN ripoff/tribute film?

Obviously in the world of PROMETHEUS, the ALIEN franchise of films doesn't exist. So, what would be their ALIEN? Forget the paradox of "Without ALIEN there are no ALIEN ripoffs" etc.

I'd vote for something like LEVIATHAN. Not a "great" movie, but without comparisons to ALIEN it probably looks a little better. What are some others?

Sorry, maybe I'm just an idiot, but what do you mean by this? Prometheus is set in the same universe as ALL Alien and Alien vs Predator films.

I think Prometheus negates the existance of the Alien vs Predator films. Unless they mean to imply that the
Spoiler:
proto xenomorph
at the end of Prometheus is something completely unrelated. There's also the issue that the AVP films state that the Predators had access to xenomorphs all the way back in our past. The Alien sequels can exist just fine but the AVP films are totally removed from continuity.

Yeah, you're right about that. I forgot about the "history" of the AvP movies. Oh well...no loss.

now hold on a sec, let's give some credit to Mario Bava's 1965 film 'Planet of the Vampire' which served as a template to 'Alien'

I think we should all negate the existence of the AvP films. I certainly have.

Syngenor
It wasn't in space but the design of the creature looked very close to Alien and Giger's work.

Alien is actually a ripoff of 1958's IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE.
