The Starving Games (2013, Friedberg & Seltzer)

From Collider:

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the glorious filmmakers behind such eloquent fare as Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Vampires Suck, have set their sights on The Hunger Games for their next opus. Variety reports that Friedberg and Seltzer will write and direct The Starving Games, a “comedy” spoof that will derive its plot from The Hunger Games because it’s a lazy genius idea. Apparently the film will also spoof The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and the final Harry Potter film as well, given that those movies made a lot of money and stupid people will see an Avengers reference and go “I recognize that as something that I’m aware of! Funny!”

There’s a difference between lowbrow humor aimed at kids (The Smurfs) and just plain lazy comedy. Friedberg and Seltzer’s movies literally reenact entire scenes from popular blockbusters, switch it up by making someone fall down/fart in said scenes, and call it a day. That’s piggybacking, not talent, and this is why their movies are terrible.

I don't want them to die. Just to stop making movies.

Dying's a good way to get them to stop making movies.

Will the eventual trailer feature the song "I'm Your Boogie Man" to remind people that it's from "2 of the 6 writers of 'Scary Movie'"?

*shudders*

"Scary Movie" and its sequels lowered the bar so low for spoof movies, I fear we will never get anything the likes of "Airplane!" or "Top Secret!" again. Compared to the last 12 years of slop, those were frickin' nuanced, subtle and almost Shakespearean.

Whatever happened to that 3D spoof they were supposed to be writing and directing?

I don't get why people get so upset about these. Just do what I do and don't watch them.

If I want to watch something that isn't funny I will watch an episode of The Office or Arrested Development for free. Not spending money to see this.

Re: The Starving Games (2013, Friedberg & Seltzer)

These 'movies' fascinate me. Because there are actually people out there somewhere that will get into their car, drive someplace, and pay money to see them. To quote Jerry Sienfled, who are these people?

Still I guess you can't fault them. If I could find a way to make millions of dollars from stupid people with very little effort, I guess I'd do it too.

I'd gladly shit out a terrible movie if it turned a profit.

I bet this film has less plot holes and continuity errors than a Nolan film and won't actually ruin The Hunger Games the same way Abrams Star Trek has that series.

I wonder when the art of movie parodies died? Can we trace it back to Scary Movie which started the "Movie, Movie" trend, or was it dead before that?

It's not not dead, just that no dedication is put into it. I'm surprised at some of the stuff that passes itself off as comedy. I'm talking to you Adam Sandler, Tyler Perry & others. But I guess not every film can be Black Dynamite.

Do Friedberg and Seltzer believe in this stuff? Or are they just trolling and laughing at the people who buy tickets?

They waited until the last second of the trailer before using scatological humor. Must have been a challenge.

Top 10 of the year contender? I'm avoiding the trailer to hinder expectations.

I can direct those people to a website where they can see something very similar for free.

I've never really seen the box office return numbers on their other movies, but I'm assuming these films must cost next to nothing to make.
