I saw this and thought I'd share.
6 Insane Sequels That Almost Ruined Classic Movies
The E.T. sequel sounds retarded. But I so wanna see Nick Cave's Gladiator 2.

I just read this yesterday. I'd heard of most of these, but reading that Gladiator 2 synopsis never gets old.

The ET sequel is a great case of what the fuck were they thinking? I might be the only person in the world who thought ET was schmaltzy, inner-child Spielberg at his worst, but even I know it's wrong to have ET torturning the kids from the original movie. (Though a part of would love to see this movie.)
The Beetlejuice one sounds like it might have been fun; it sort of falls into that tradition of setting a sequel in the tropics (Nerds in Paradise) from the 80s. Don't have any real sentimental attachment to the original anyway.
Gladiator 2 sounds like a glorious disaster. I would love to see that, especially since it's trashing a Best Picture winner. Again, I'm not terribly attached to the original so I wouldn't get butthurt about it. It's like making Steel Magnolias 2 with zombies. Bring it on!
Gump 2 sounds like more of the same. Meh on the original. Meh on the sequel.
The only one that really pisses me off is Ei8ht. I really hate it when they take an original script and retool it into the sequel of another movie.

Cracked has a way of writing their pieces to make things fit the description of the article, rather than look at it objectively. The Gump 2 doesn't sounds insane at all. While I think a sequel for the movie is a bad idea in general the sequel idea they drew up sounds exactly what you would think a Forrest Gump sequel would be. Exactly the same thing, just set in the 80's and 90's.
With that said the Gladiator one seems laughable, no matter what.

There was a book series that was similar to the Gladiator 2 concept. It was about the centurion who speared Jesus on the cross. He was doomed to being a soldier through all eternity and the books traversed a bunch of different wars thoroughout time.

Arminius, that kind of reminds me of Eternal Darkness the video game. Where you follow 5 or 6 people from different periods in history but they're connected somehow, and one of them was a gladiator.

Great article had me bursting when reading the plot for ET 2.
Elliott is tortured until he passes out and then tossed into a cell with his siblings.

There's an E.T. novel, "Book of the Green Planet" that would have made for a very respectible sequel to E.T.
I've read Gump & Co....it was one of the worst book sequels/cash grabs ever published. It's simply dreadful.

I was dying over the E.T. 2 synopsis. I probably would have at least enjoyed that. I've seen the original one once and have no interest to seeing it again.
As for Gump & Co. I thought it was just held up in legal mumbo jumbo. I didn't know that Zemeckis decided that it wasn't worth making. I can see his point. I've grown to like the movie over the years. I loathed it when it came out and couldn't stand it growing up but I've watched it a few times when it's been on TNT and I actually like it now.
Gladiator 2 sounds like the best sequel that was never made. I would've preferred that to Robin Hood.
The Beetlejuice story I remember. Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian was supposed to be filmed back to back with Beetlejuice in Love. I remember seeing them in the Development Hell section of Corona Coming Attractions back in the late 90s.

The Gladiator sequel sounds pretty cool. Even if it didn't have Crowe's character from the first, I'd like to see it.

I don't know what's weirder, that ET 2 synopsis, or the ET sequel novel. In the novel, ET is ostracized by his group: They're pretty pissed off that they had to travel all the way back to get him. Among other things he can still sort of sense what's going on with Elliot (now in middle school), and tries to get back to Earth. The supporting aliens were kind of cool though.

They could and should still produce that Gladiator 2 script. It sounds so over-the-top that it begs to be made. If they're afraid of pissing on the original, just change the title and the name of the main character. And if Ridley Scott refuses to direct, get John Hillcoat to do the honours.
