Hellboy 3 (d: Guillermo del Toro) [UPDATE: DEAD -- being rebooted without del Toro]

If there is an appropriate link that one of you want to offer me to ask this question by all means..

anyways, I just watched Hellboy II: The Golden Army again a few nights ago on Blu-Ray and was struck by how much I enjoyed it. The first time was opening weekend three years ago and though I liked it then I still felt kind of disappointed. Maybe my expectations were skewed then, who knows, but I thought HII was absolutely hilarious revisting it. That entire sequence at the Paranormal Division in the middle of the movie, a 10-minute sequence that starts with "Red" knocking out Johann Krauss, then getting drunk with Abe Sapien, then having to fight Prince Nuada inebriated, that entire scene is better paced and has more laughs than most comedies these days (ie: The Hangover II)

The movie ends with many questions and ideas up in the air, and obviously del Toro was initially hoping to extend or finish his ideas that he posited here. Hellboy and his team are now public and out in the open. He's expecting twins. Krauss says he will one day tell the story of his past wife. There is a premonition given that because Elizabeth saves Hellboy the world will fall.

I know the Hellboy movies were never gigantic blockbusters, and many have told me that we were lucky to even get a decent sequel out of it and that I should just be happy with that and let it go. But it would still feel wrong, imo, to just end it all like this.

Re: So has Guillermo del Toro completely scraped his ideas for a HELLBOY PART III ?

Scraped off his shoe?

Last I heard, he wants to do it but he's wrapped up in so many other projects that it won't even be feasible until 2014 at the earliest. If he has a few hits (which Pacific Rim needs to be) he might be able to get it done with minimal problems. HBII did open at #1, after all.

I thought that he said he wasn't interested in making Hellboy III.

I don't know but I'm hoping Lt. Ripley does.

What a fucking colossal blunder. It opened at #1 with around $35m and couldn't even crack $100m by the end of its run because of TDK stealing away all the fanboy cash.

I had read somewhere that Ron Pearlman isn't in a rush to commit because of the time required in the makeup chair.

I would love to see a Hellboy III, though.

They need to do it in the next couple of years. Ron Perlman isn't getting any younger. Of course, I'll still take decrepit Ron Perlman over many other of today's actors, but still.

Ron Perlman reprises Hellboy for an awesome cause

From Badass Digest;

The Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted FX house Spectral Motion with a unique request from a little boy: he wanted to meet Hellboy. And maybe become him as well. And so young Zachary came to the Spectral Motion offices where he found Hellboy himself - Ron Perlman had returned to wear the make-up and outfit, and he had a big burgers, fries and shakes lunch with Zachary.

When that was done, Zach got in the make-up chair and Spectral Motion gave him his own make-up job.

Did we ever doubt that Hellboy was a real hero? We may never get a Hellboy 3, but maybe this is inspiring enough.

That's really awesome that Perlman did that. That kid looks so happy. He looks really young. Do you think he knows if Hellboy is real or not?

Still hope we'll get a Hellboy 3 some day.

That's really cool of Perlman.

Now if only the kid's wish had been for Hellboy 3 to be made already.

I see this picture and it's Hellboy hanging out with the kid, not Ron Perlman.

All kinds of awesome.

Perlman is so cool to do something like this for the kid. This and Johnny Depp coming to a girl's school dressed as Jack Sparrow show that there are still some stars who appreciate their fans.

Re: Ron Perlman reprises Hellboy for an awesome cause

I think that kid is badass for being a Hellboy fan. The movie is awesome, but not universally accessible.

Also, a kid facing death (I assume that's how Make a Wish works), who's hero is a fictional anti-superhero from hell. That's kind of awesome.

Perlman just went up like 100 notches in my book. That's terrific of him to do that.

Extremely nice of Perlman to do this but let's hold off on the Nobel Prize. All he did was sit in a makeup chair for a couple hours, take a couple pictures and eat lunch with a kid.

Still doesn't take away from the fact that he did it. I'd imagine many in Hollywood couldn't be bothered with doing the same thing.

That was really nice of him, but goddamn, the Hellboy movies were fucking terrible.
