MANIAC Remake: Starring... Elijah Wood!?

Deadline confirms (as first reported by Bloody Disgusting) that Wood will play a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins, and spends his spare time stalking prey on the internet and planning out his kills. The character suffers hallucinations that take him back to when his mother abused him, and he gains a sense of revenge against his mother each time he kills a victim. Nora Arnezeder (Safe House) also stars, as reported by BD. Franck Khalfoun (P2) is directing the indie, and Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D) and Gregory Lavasseur (The Hills Have Eyes) are onboard to produce.

meh, Wood is creepy enough that it might work. Will probably put the final nail in his career's coffin, though.

From Joe Spinell to Elijah Wood? Gimme a break.

Also, no exploding head full of shrimp and stage blood, no sale.

Th original film has the best head explosion. I hope there's one in this.

Too bad we never got Spinell's sequel, but Wood can be very creepy and and very normal which was important in the original.

Anyone with doubts in Wood needs to check out SIN CITY.

Yeah, from a no talent, z-level character actor to a talented guy who admirably carried one of the biggest movie trilogies of all time.

Doing a remake of a shitty movie, famous only for its power to nauseate.

The way I see it, the only way to go is UP.

The director of P2? PU! I hated P2.
No problem with Woods. He can put on the creepy.

Z-level character actor? Maybe I'll give you that, but no talent? Take a hike.

I'm not saying I think Wood is a bad actor, he might even be good in this, but I don't think anyone gave a shit he was Frodo. A dozen other actors could have nailed that role just fine and the films still would've been massive hits.

Re: MANIAC Remake: Starring... Elijah Wood!?

Can we just ban Alexandre Aja and Gregory Lavasseur from Hollywood already?

I've never seen two schmucks have a career based upon nothing but lackluster remakes that didn't even do that well financially.

Wow, I guess the definition of classic has lightened since I last checked.

Ah, Youtube. Is there anything that's NOT posted on there.

Not safe for work, by the way. Contains classic Savini on Savini violence.

I wouldn't go that far... to me it is fondly remembered because of the gore nothing more. IMO it really is not that good of a movie.

Agreed. I saw it recently and thought it was utter crap. But I'm not a horror junkie.

Re: MANIAC Remake: Starring... Elijah Wood!?

Well, there was this "semi-sequel" that was actually fairly good:

Ugh, pass. I'd rather have the ultimate from an 80s hooker.

Agreed!

I think it's just weird to think of Elijah Wood in Spinell's role, that's all. He has to be greasy and in a fat suit.
