I've been buying some from DD lately, they've actually gotten better. Possibly due to the purchase by "Super D".

Re: Deep Discount - Criterion Collection save up to 57% off

Out of 654 titles in this sale only ONE title is 57% off (Sweet Smell of Success DVD). Only 20 or 30 titles were 40% or more (and many of these were NOT Criterion titles); the VAST MAJORITY of the Criterions were between 30 & 35% off.

If they really wanted to get some attention, why not have the Criterion sale say up to 95% off, with the only qualifying title being the original 1-disc release of Seven Samurai? (and only while supplies last).

I'm sorry, but I think I'm going to have to jump on the I-Hate-What-DDD-Has-Become bandwagon now!

Another joke of a non-sale. Why aren't these guys out of business yet? Who actually buys anything from them anymore?

^I do occasionally... but shipping takes far longer (weeks instead of days) and it's harder and harder to find true deals. Where they were once the *first* place I looked, now they are the last. I looked at this "sale" a week or so back and saw what Proglodite saw... another non-sale type "sale".

I bought several blu rays at the recent 2 for 1 sale. Received them all in good condition and quickly with free shipping so I guess I do.

That said this up to 57% sale sucks so I will not be buying anything from it.

Ditto. I also bought a couple of CD's that were several dollars cheaper than Amazon. All arrived quickly.

So out of curiosity, the next Criterion sale from BN is in November? I really want to get The Killing, The Phantom Carriage, and a few others but I've been waiting under the impression that it'll be cheaper in November. Thoughts?

The last 6 or so Julys and Novembers, B&N has had every Criterion at 50% off. Add coupons and/or membership/site discounts, and those are generally the best price on Criterions. Keep an eye out for the specific threads for the sale in those months.

Re: Deep Discount - Criterion Collection save up to 57% off

To give credit where credit's due, I do believe DD was the first retailer to actually have Criterions at 50% off. It was a B1G1 sale maybe five or six years ago - I remember it vividly because it was the first time I had ever encountered such a huge discount on Criterions...and was the first time I was able to take chances on their films with an assurance that I could resell the ones I didn't like and either get all my money back or maybe even make a little. I don't believe B&N started their 50% sales until a good year and a half or two years later. --Peter

They've gotten better. Their shipping is really fast now (internationally) and packaged much better.

Re: Deep Discount - Criterion Collection save up to 57% off

I'm tempted to get Scenes from a Marriage for $24.29 since Barnes & Noble doesn't seem to stock it anymore.

My only hesitation is wondering if it will be released on blu-ray anytime soon.

Edit: Nevermind. I see DD says 5-10 days until shipped, which, from what I understand of DD's past, likely means it will never ship.
