So I saw Jeff Mangum Live last night...
Saw Jeff Mangum at Sander's Theater in Cambridge last night. The show was amazing. He did about an hour set with two encores. There was a bit of back and forth with the audience and he encouraged everyone to sing along. I actually ran into Jeff on his way off the stage and shook his hand. I was so starstruck, all I could muster were the words 'thank you.' Yeah, I know, pretty lame. Anyone else here go to the show?

Really??? C'mon guys...Neutral Milk Hotel?? Someone other than me has to be excited that Jeff decided to start touring after like 17 years. Someone on this forum has to at least reply and say they once heard that song with the aeroplane...anyone?

Never heard of him. Also, I hate it when bands encourage the audience to sing. Yeah, I know they all do it (except for Numan
), but I paid to hear them, not a bunch of tone-deaf drunkards (myself included).

Since you bumped your own thread, I must comment that I have a ticket to see him a few weeks that I'm going to try my best to scalp, since I think he is the most overrated person ever. It came as part of the ATP in NJ festival, I hope I can get some $$ for it. Hour set with two encores sounds pretty lame, if you're headlining a show you should have at least an hour and a half of material.

Five years ago, Mangum was up there with Kevin Shields as the most missed star of the ninties for me. I have to admit, now that both are somewhat back I'm a bit uninterested for some reason. To me, their moment has passed. Having said that, Mangum could drop an amazing album and surprise me.
..now we just have to get Lee Mavers and Kurt Ralske back in the studio.

He didn't have a breakdown or go crazy or anything. I think he just realized he probably wouldn't ever make an album that is better than "In the Aeorplane..." and went a bit reclusive.

He's announced a new tour, I'm definitely hitting the Minneapolis date:
