RIP, rapper Heavy D
No details yet, but one would think his weight could have been a factor. RIP.

Heavy D, the former leader of the hip-hop group Heavy D and the Boyz, has died at the age of 44. The rapper was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles earlier this afternoon and was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. PT. Police are investigating his death but there are no signs of foul play.
Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, broke into the music industry with Living Large, his first record with the Boyz, in 1987. He went on to even greater success with the hit "Now That We Found Love" in 1991, and recorded theme songs for the television series In Living Color and MADtv. In recent years, D recorded a series of reggae fusion albums.

Didn't listen to his music but I saw him on "Bones" often in earlier seasons, along with a lot of other shows.
Always liked him whenever he appeared.

I just saw Heavy D on a new episode of Law and Order SVU a few weeks ago.
TMZ is reporting that he had pneumonia and was having trouble breathing while walking up some stairs.
RIP big guy.

The one ep of SVU that I watch this season was the one that he was in.
It's sad to see that he's passed.
Here's his last televised performance... just a month ago:

This is really bumming me out. D was one of those guys that I grew up on. I'm so used to famous people dying that I don't really have a connection to. Joe Frazier dying sucks, and while I have tons of adoration for him, Joe really was before my time. But D? He was pretty much ever present in my formative years. When I started to really care about music is when he came on the scene. And as a fellow light-skinned big kid who liked to dance, I definitely identified with him when I was younger. And I loved his music then, and I still love it now. The Overweight Lover's In the House is still my motherfucking jam, and really while D was viewed as more of a pop artist, the brother could get busy on the mic.

True story: A friend of mine is a teacher and once had a student in her class whose legal name was Heavy Dee (Last Name). And the student was female.
