Hey everybody,
Any recommendations for films featuring depressive and/or nihilistic characters? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Natural Enemies (1979) is one that comes to mind. It's excellent.

SWORD OF DOOM (1967) directed by Kihachi Okamoto and starring Tatsuya Nakadai as the most nihilistic swordsman you'll ever see. And in this genre (samurai), that's saying a lot.
The LONE WOLF AND CUB series, esp. the first film, SWORD OF VENGEANCE (1972). Starring Tomisaburo Wakayama.
The YAKUZA PAPERS series, starting with BATTLES FOR HONOR AND HUMANITY, directed by Kinji Fukasaku. (1973-74)
AMERICAN ME (1992), a prison film about Chicano gangs in L.A., directed by and starring Edward James Olmos. It really impressed me when I saw it, but it's so dark and depressing that I've never wanted to see it again.

"Very Bad Things"--the greatest and funniest comedy that will forever leave a black stain on your soul if you so much as smile at any part of it.
