Avatar: The Way of Water (2022, D: Cameron) S: Worthington, Saldana

Sigourney Weaver Returning for Avatar 2?

Will Sigourney Weaverreprise her role as Dr. Grace Augustine in an Avatar sequel? The question might sound stupid to anyone who has seen the movie, but remember what happens when you assume?

Sigourney Weaver appeared on the TV show Le Grand Journal. The actress is in Paris this week to honor Harrison Ford during the Cesar Awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars). During her interview, Weaver was asked if she would be part of Avatar 2 and she made it clear that she has already talked about it with James Cameron, who is planning to include her in the sequel.

But how is that possible?

Anyone who has seen Avatar knows that Dr. Grace Augustine died from a fatal gun wound, and the attempt to transfer Grace from her dying human body into her unconscious avatar body with unsuccessful. So how can Weaver possibly be in the sequel? Remember, after Grace died, Mo'at declared that "she is with Eywa now". Weaver explained on the talk show that her character still exists "in the tree", and while she can't promise anything, James Cameron has some ideas on how to keep "the family together." You can watch the appearance below.

Thanks to CineTVBuzz.com for the tip.

Dunno. All I did was copy-paste the text. But I edited the post just now to fix the problem.

I've seen it show up on a couple cut-and-pasted articles here today. Must be an encoding issue.

I wouldn't put too much stock in this; my suspicion is something got lost in the translation. Weaver told us very recently that the subject has come up with Cameron but that nothing's been decided. He doesn't even have a story outline yet.

And she will return ... we will find out that she is actually a cloned half-breed ... nah, that's been done.

Will she be played by Angelina Jolie? I can't see this moving forward without her.

Well Angelina was the basis for all the Na'avi so unless she lends her likeness again, the sequel is toast.

Really? It has been years since I've seen it, but I don't recall a talking tree in Oz. There is a talking tree in LotR: The Two Towers however.

So ... Sigourney Weaver will be the ghostly version of Obi Wan to Sam Worthington's Luke. Maybe Cameron will introduce a new native species that resembles Jar Jar Binks.

So, wait, is Avatar 2 going to be live action or not? I'm still pulling for a live-action Avatar, which costs 100 billion dollars, really takes place on a distant planet and really has Avatars for real. Supposively, Cameron is 'fit' enough for space travel.

I can wait.

Yes there were talking trees in the Wizard of Oz ... wooden performances can also be seen in almost any Nicolas Cage movie as well.

Well, I just ruined that movie for myself. I must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen this film...

^ You'd probably get more of a response if that story hadn't worn out its welcome already... or if the comment were offensive... or funny. Alas, it is not.
