I know a lot of people didn't care for Doomsday (I did), but The Descent is enough to make me see everything Marshall puts out.

So is she supposed to be Boudica?

Why didn't they just say 'in a galaxy far, far away', it would be more historically accurate.

I'm already pretty positive I won't bother seeing this.

I just hope it's better than Doomsday.

Neil Marshall is destined to direct some kind of Valkyrie movie, either based on the famous mythological stories or on the Marvel characters.

I'll probably see this when it hits DVD, mostly cause I have quite the crush on Olga Kurylenko.

I dig what Marshall does. He apes from Carpenter a lot, but I can't say I blame him. This looks like some serious Gladiator-meets-300 retread territory, but I like supporting what he puts out. So, I'm saying I'll likely see this.

i never really get excited about heroic epics, but like the reason for many others' interests for this, i'm in solely because of Neil Marshall.

Looks okay. Not a big fan of these period epic battle movies, though (haven't ever seen 300 or Gladiator, for instance, and who knows if I ever will).

just watched Quantum of Solace the other day, she is definitely the best thing about it, still, she couldn't get me to watch Max Payne.

Is the Boudicca part what isn't accurate? Cursory web searching says the "disappearance" happened around 108AD to 117AD, so I'm guessing you mean that it's mixing two different conflicts which were in reality separated by 100 years or so. I don't really know anything about it, so please illuminate if you do.

Yeah, it's just a fictional take on the legend of the disappearance of the 9th legion. The time frame is correct. This has nothing to do with Celtic warrior queen Boudicca.

Seems like a popular topic because Kevin Macdonald's upcoming "The Eagle of the Ninth", based on the book by Rosemary Sutcliff, is also about that legend.

really liked Doomsday and LOVE Olga Kurylenko (only reason I watch Max Payne). So I will probably see this

Haters gonna hate, but Marshall is so far three-for-three in my book. Dog Soldiers and The Descent are great, but Doomsday is highly underrated and almost as fun as Grindhouse if it paid homage to 80s films instead.

I'm just disappointed that none of Marshall's "regulars" are making an appearance in this film. Is Sean Pertwee busy or something?

I enjoyed Doomsday, if only for Rhona Mitra. And though I didn't like The Descent in theaters, I recently rewatched it and appreciated it more (several of the characters are still annoying to me, but it's creepier than I thought it was years ago).

Oh... well the Romans had been in Britain for nearly two centuries by 119 AD. So to say 'the invasion' is nonsense. Two centuries is enough time to differentiate between a mixed bag of settlers trying to eek out a life on the east coast of the new world, and the US being the most powerful nation on earth... for only one example. So it kind of stuck out at me.

I thought maybe it was a 'send up' pic about Boudica or something from the female warrior thing with 'the 9th' thrown in. In that day and time female warrior leaders were quite rare. Also off completely as to dates and etc as has already been pointed out.

Maybe it was lame of me to bring up actual history in a thread about some silly B movie. I wasn't trying to troll, those were just the first thoughts I had as I watched the trailer.

Roman troops invading an unsubjugated area of Britain in 117 is perfectly plausible -- and indeed, the IX Legion is believed to have disappeared during just such a campaign into Scotland.

It sounds like they are mixing events from 61 and 117 AD. That legion was involved in a defeat by Boudica in the earlier time. They were said to have disappeared in 117 but elements of the 9th legion were identified after 117 AD. That could mean there were some survivors or the legion was just rebuilt, which was common Roman practice.
