Yeah but that one stars Channing Tatum so I'm going to have to pretend it doesn't exist.

Re: Neil Marshall's Centurion (Fassbender, Kurylenko)

Damn it, I knew I should have just waited to blind buy the UK blu-ray, but anyway, I watched this movie on Time Warner HD On Demand yesterday, and it's one of Neil Marshall's best films. I think this film and The Descent are his best. So now I spent 10 bucks renting this, and know I want to buy the blu-ray. I should have just blind bought it!

Centurion is really entertaining and has great performances. This is also the first Neil Marshall film that is touching and emotional. Eventhough the blood is a bit cartoonish, this movie is seriously gruesome: heads chopped off, head hacked away with axes, arrows in eyes, arrows in ears, just nasty stuff in this film.

Re: Neil Marshall's Centurion (Fassbender, Kurylenko)

I've enjoyed all of Neils films so far, however I think the first 50 minutes of The Descent is better than the remainder of the film. Doomsday is completely awesome though and far better than I thought it would be,since the trailer didn't impress me much(much like this new films trailer). So provided this is released in theaters where I can actually see it instead of some obscure theater way out of the way, I'll definitely be interested in seeing this film and hope it delivers the goods.

Yep, just checked my comcast listings, and they have it for 10 bucks on demand, and this is getting a limited release sometime in september (as i remember a coming soon listing for this film in a guide at the E street cinema in dc)

I totally agree with you. I didn't like the animal people element in this film. The Descent would have been a better film if it just stayed as a realistic film dealing with friendship, claustrophobia, and survival...

But overall, still a great horror film!

This movie looks cool. The Descent was great. Doomsday was a bit all over the place, but still entertaining. This one looks like a step up.

I might just get the R2 DVD...cheaper than going to the theatre. It'll be a blind buy but I liked most of the movies Marshall did anyways.

Interesting. Is there good Kurylenko nudity in this?

I'm gonna wait this one out. I did not like Doomsday as much as I had hoped. Maybe he does better with movies smaller in scope.

NOT AT ALL. The movie was meh..I can see why this had a pre-release. Pretty disappointing. It wasn't the worst thing ever..but it felt like a decent DTV release.

That is disappointing. Neil Marshall showed such promise with The Descent, it's a shame to see him keep slipping. I wasn't crazy about Doomsday either.

Where I live it's $8.50 for matinee and it's usually with the wife so it's about even...besides, I get to keep it after.

Yeah totally. I love Dog Soldiers and The Descent and really didn't mind Doomsday (cept for the Highlander bullshit) So I was pretty excited about this one, but it fell flat.

I'm not swearing off Marshall just yet.

Re: Neil Marshall's Centurion (Fassbender, Kurylenko)

Sad to read such bad reactions to it. I've yet to see Dog Soldiers but I loved The Descent. After that huge POS that was Doomsday, I was hoping this movie was Marshall getting back in track.

As for Kurylenko not appearing nude, that's no surprise to me as she pulled a "no nudity clause" shortly after she did Hitman. It amused me to know end because in many interviews prior and up to that movie she talked a whole lot about how comfortable she was about showing off her naked body. Then when she added a no nudity clause to her contract for Max Payne (and any movie since), she would say in interviews about how uncomfortable nude scenes make her feel.

I would agree with this. Not even a good DTV-type movie.

Knowing the director is a hack, it wasn't as completely terrible as I expected though. That's really a compliment of sorts. He slathered on the gore, which made parts of it fairly interesting at least.

Spoiler:
I had to laugh at him shamelessly stealing whole sequences from 'Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid'. I had a good laugh at that stuff. It was so blatant it was truly funny.

Much better than the awful Doomsday, but still pretty fucking far from The Descent. It had some decent gore but I'm becoming more and more convinced that Marshall peaked early.

Re: Neil Marshall's Centurion (Fassbender, Kurylenko)

Pretty fun movie. The action was gory and well choreographed. Michael Fassbender is an excellent lead. I had a few minor complaints, like the little hint of romance between Quintus Dias and Arianne...too cliche for my tastes.

Movie had its moments, overall though it doesn't standout in its genre.
