Favorite Movie Studio

I was asked this question the other day and I had a difficult time coming up with an answer. My gut reaction would be Fox, just because of Aliens and Fight Club. But upon further review, Warner Bros has a much deeper library and now it is a much much tougher decision. So, if you were forced to watch films from only one movie studio's library, past, present, or future, which studio would you watch?

To help aid in this, i've included some notable movies.

Fox

    Universal

      Paramount

        Sony

          Warner Bros

            Disney

I wanted to make this a poll question but I don't know how to do that. So if any mods or anyone else for that matter could instruct me how to do polls, it would be much appreciated.

              WB...

also your list for the films of those studios should be a little bit thicker and varied. Needs a lot more classics. Also techically I guess Sin City could be a Disney flick but...not directly under the label.

Paramount and Warner Bros. for me, if we're just talking about the major studios. If I had to choose between the two, I'd take WB, just because of the Bogart and Eastwood films.

Universal was GOD when I was a kid (Classic Horror,E.T.,Universal Studios)

Liked the edginess of Miramax as a teen.

Love WB as an adult (Especially when they acquired MGM's old library)

I just wanted to do the major studios and lump some of the smaller studios with their parent studios. I believe New Line Cinemas are owned by Warners, Miramax is owned by Disney, and Dreamworks is owned by Paramount? And I think MGM is now defunct?

Universal has my favorite film: The Thing (1982), plus they have some of Carpenter's best work from the 80's.

Close second would be Paramount, then WB, Fox, Disney and Sony.

I'm going to say Warner, due to the sheer number of titles (including classics) they control. However, If you limited it to the past 20 years, I might say Disney due to the Pixar titles, their early-90s animated movies, and Miramax. Their catalog just isn't that deep IMHO, as I didn't like much of their live-action stuff before the 90s.

I used to love Orion Pictures before it, for all intents and purposes, ceased to be in the mid 90s.

Paramount, mostly for Star Trek. I even did a project/presentation about Paramount and Viacom in my high school economics class.

Orion was awesome, and New Line was also until it fell apart.

I'd probably put WB at top, but Fox hits the bottom for me.

              Re: Favorite Movie Studio

Warners has had so many classics over the years, from 42ND STREET and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD to CASABLANCA and MALTESE FALCON to THE SEARCHERS, all the way up to DIRTY HARRY, MEAN STREETS, EXORCIST II, JFK, THE MATRIX, etc., that it's an easy pick. Plus the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.

One great studio that had a nice run was AIP (American International Pictures), where Roger Corman thrived for roughly 15 years with his monster-sci-fi movies (IT CONQUERED THE WORLD) and the Edgar Allan Poe cycle (HOUSE OF USHER) and the biker movies (THE WILD ANGELS). As a kid, I loved seeing AIP movies in theaters--the BEACH PARTY series, X-THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES, SAMSON AND THE SEVEN MIRACLES OF THE WORLD, etc. They specialized in low-budget genre films--generally well-made--and sent them out as double features aimed at young audiences. E.g. BEACH PARTY and THE YOUNG RACERS, X-THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES and DEMENTIA 13. And in the '70s they did all sorts of higher-end movies, such as THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT, ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU and FUTUREWORLD, in addition to unforgettable drive-in movies like BLACK CAESAR, SLAUGHTER, TRUCK TURNER, FROGS, EMPIRE OF THE ANTS and FOOD OF THE GODS. Plus early movies by Francis Coppola, Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma.

Corman's New World Pictures kind of stole their thunder in the 1970s, by putting out R-rated exploitation movies aimed at the teens who'd grown up on AIP. New World's output included early movies by Jonathan Demme (CAGED HEAT), Jonathan Kaplan (NIGHT CALL NURSES), Ron Howard (GRAND THEFT AUTO), Joe Dante (PIRANHA), Paul Bartel (DEATH RACE 2000) et al, plus screenplays by John Sayles (PIRANHA, ALLIGATOR, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS). AIP was gone by the early '80s and New World stopped making drive-in movies not long after. No one ever really took their place.

Maybe Lionsgate might be up there soon since they are accumulating a lot of titles lately though they don't have a vast library like the other studios.

Maybe MGM could be on that list in the poll.

... a 6 year bump. What made you think of bumping it?

I've also thought about how Lionsgate really moved along. I really need to study them. They've an interesting history from what I've seen.

Just considering classic films when studios had an identity, I would choose Warner.

Even today, I'd probably still give it to WB.

Interesting how Marvel is part of Disney now unlike back in 2009. Wonder if anybody has changed on who is their favorite now?

Based on today's current slate of films I voted Universal. I love their movie.
