I was surprised to see that in 1951, no one started a thread for this movie.

I watched my first Hitchcock movie today. I thought it was awesome. This is how suspense should be done in a movie. The villain was scary, some of the shots were amazing...I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more Hitchcock.

I didn't understand why, at the end As I read on IMDB though, those are the two common nitpicks, and are very little. The ending was great.

never seen a hitchcock film and you just watched casablanca for the first time last week? sheesh. is it safe to assume you've never seen a billy wilder flick either? what about citizen kane? anything with marilyn monroe? a film noir?

Hitchcock himself didn't much like the police so that might explain the shooting. Refresh my memory what happens?

'Throw Momma From The Train' has greatly affected my perception of that film.

Based upon my viewing of classic films, reckless disregard for innocent bystanders didn't become a concern for cops until around 1975. In the old days, they used to run down crowded streets, firing guns indiscriminately at suspects who were clearly out of range of their dinky little handguns.

This Hitchcock film gets better every time I see it. The aspect of it that stands out the most for me is Walker's performance as Bruno, one of the most psychologically daring (particularly the veiled gay subtext) in the studio era. He's genuinely creepy and thoroughly believable. And yet we do feel some sympathy for him. He lived up to his word and he expects Guy to do the same. In his twisted logic, Guy's failure to do so is completely outrageous. And, besides, don't we, the audience, secretly take glee in Bruno's act? At the same time, though, we certainly wouldn't want this guy stalking us.

Next assignment, Tarantino: SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1943)

Indeed. In fact I never saw SOAT until adult life whereas I've loved TMFTT since high school.

No Wilder movies, no Citizen Kane, no Monroe, and very little film noir. Hence my quest to watch everything in the IMBD top 250 (in my sig).
