Just saw a screening of longtime-in-the-making documentary THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING: THE LEGACY OF JAWS here at work.

All I can say is: WOW. 10 times more comprehensive than the Laurent Bouzerau documentary from the laserdisc. There is NO rock left unturned. The filmmakers DEFINITELY did their research and homework. Now wonder it took so long.

At 2 1/2 hours, it's easily a 1/2 hour too long, but you leave learning EVERYTHING about JAWS. Everything! Including:

1) Who painted the famous Jaws poster
2) Where all the JAWS props are now, including The Orca and the original shark
3) Updates on the Amity locales and the actors who played even the most obscure parts
4) Tours of the USS Indianapolis memorial, Verna Field's swimming pool (where they filmed Ben Gardner's head popping out), the cabin where Spielberg stayed when he made Jaws
5) Jaws Fest footage of fans and actors
6) Stories of how Robert Shaw tormented Richard Dreyfuss
7) Behind-the-scenes footage of how they filmed Chrissie's death, Alex Kitner's death on the raft, etc

It's really an excellent documentary. I suggest you see it, especially if you love Spielberg and JAWS.

Any word on if/when this will ever be available on DVD?

I dream of a world where this doc is released as part of a 2-disc Blu-ray Jaws gift-set housed inside a mini Orca.

Man, those pics look freaky but I'm glad they were ultimately cut. I'd still love to have that footage on a DVD, though.

The boy(now man) who played Alex Kintner still lives on Martha's Vineyard. Someone I met worked with him for a while at some type of diner. Apparently he doesn't really like talking about Jaws.

Interesting. I don't know his reasons, but I've always felt like I would be totally freaked out acting in a Jaws scene with the mechanical shark. But I guess a good actor would "use it" for the performance so there's that. Hell, I even wonder how the maintenance guys do it at the Jaws exhibits at the Universal Studio Parks

That's a pretty interesting point! Granted, it's a fake shark, but I still get the chills watching JAWS. Heck, I get freaked out every time I see a picture of a Great White Shark ... ha ha. But back to the Kitner kid ... if he wasn't scared out of his wits by "Bruce" as a boy, I don't think he'd have issues as an adult.

And yes, those pictures of the extended Kitner shark attack scene are tremendously scary and creepy to me.

They show the original Alex death, with Bruce the shark popping out of the water and chomping down (as seen in Life Mag) and Alex is just a mannequin (female one at that) with Alex's red swimming suit on

Wow!!! That sounds pretty gruesome ... even if it was a mannequin. Was Bruce the same one that's seen throughout the movie? In the pics, he looks slightly different.

It was the same Bruce. He just chomped down and rolled.

Keep in mind - this was all filmed by a third-party guy with a video camera, so it's really old footage.
