I saw this banner ad and thought it odd.



Dark Side is not depressing to me. It's relaxing, athmospheric...but depressing?

It's either complete idiocy, ignorance, or hilarity.

I'm a HUGE Floyd fan, and I wouldn't even begin to call their music despressing. BUT it's definitely moody, evocative, ethereal, atmospheric, any dozen other adjectives. Depressing?? What would that make shit like THE SMITHS?

Yeah, when I think depressing I think Nirvana.

Yeah for me Dark Side is very soothing.Final Cut on the other hand bums me out,for many reasons.

Well if you pay attention to some of the lyrics it's pretty damn depressing.

Pink Floyd was a study in contrasts, Roger Waters rage-driven lyrics with Gilmour's sublime playing. Depressing only comes into play when you think of Syd, and the band's sadness over his decline. Listening to 'Wish You Were Here' and knowing the story behind it is sad, but that's about it.

Agreed, while DSOTM does indeed have some "dark" themes, overall I find it to be a fairly mellow and relaxing album.

It's Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut that are the real downers, especially the Wall which is a pretty much a catalog of human misery, but still genius.

I like the album just fine, but I've always found it more depressing than not.

I never think of Pink Floyd music as depressing, though while driving my wife home from the hospital after her car accident a few weeks ago, I had Meddle in the CD deck and she asked me to turn it off because it was too depressing.

Funny that is the first band i thought of also, or really alot of the stuff from the 90's to me is depressing, but Pink Floyd no way i find there music relaxing.

Well, "Dark Side" does features the sounds of mental patients talking and laughing in the background.... but I suspect that's a little too high-concept for whatever site that advertisement leads to! Personally, I find it more depressing that classic rock stations don't just play the full album instead of the abrupt-cut single tracks.

The Wall is depressing. DSOTM is sublime.

Obscured By Clouds is groiny.

If DSoTM is depressing, it's because a lot of what happened with Syd had begun to settle in. 'Brain Damage' is one example.

DSOTM is not depressing to me. Final Cut is one heartwrenching album, and probably my favorite Floyd disc.

Weird! I find Nirvana to be "happy" music to me! Different strokes...

"Sliver" is a song I can listen to 20 times in a row and it just brings a smile to my face. Even "Endless, Nameless" makes me joyful!

I never listen to Pink Floyd with a loaded firearm handy.

Not true about the mental patient thing. They went around the studio and asked a series of questions to various people. They cut up the answers to get the various voices and laughing sounds from those interviews.
