With Joan onboard I have high hopes for this movie. I can't wait to see the rest of the casting. I'll be curious how they're gonna do the soundtrack. Maybe it'll be a good time for a reunion. I'd so catch a show.

For now, the documentary Edgeplay is an interesting watch.

Scarlett Johansson as Lita Ford would be sweet.

I saw the Documentary the drummer made a few years back and it was great. I was fascinated by what the Girls dealt with in The Runaways and I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Aside from my whole vendetta against Twilight, Kristen Stewart is quite lovely and fares well in other films (enjoyed her a lot in Into the Wild).

Kristen Stewart is a flavor of the week actress, she only got this gig so the studio could bank off her Twilight popularity. I don't see her doing much with this role.

Yeah I really think they're taking the biopics of musicians a little too far here. I can understand doing a movie about Ray Charles and Johnny Cash but Joan Jett? I'm sure she has a good story to tell but would someone who isn't a fan of The Runaways or Jett even bother with this?

Remember, this could be like Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains if we're lucky. Even though young Diane Lane > Kristen Stewart (narrowly).

Having met Lita Ford.. I would have to disagree. Ilsa Fisher, on the other hand.

Kristen Stewart set to play Joan Jett in film

Dakota Fanning is negotiating to play lead singer Cheri Currie in "The Runaways," the biopic of the '70s all-girl band that already has "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett.
Scripted and directed by Floria Sigismondi, the film begins production in late spring.

At 15, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.

John and Art Linson are producing with River Road Entertainment's Bill Pohlad, with Jett serving as exec producer.

Fanning, who most recently starred in "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Push," and voiced "Coraline," is also booked to play a vampire in the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon."

Because The Runaways were one of the first all-female bands and influenced many gals to pick up instruments and form their own bands.

Is there some reason you're not counting the girl groups of the '50s and '60s?

Remember when Panic Room came out, and everyone thought Kristin Stewart was a boy? Amazing what five years can do to a girl.

Those weren't bands, they were singing groups backed by session musicians (who were almost exclusively male).

Kristin Stewart AND Dakota Fanning? Sounds like the next Twilight film to me. Either way, I'm not a fan of either actress, so count me out.

Exactly, I remember getting that record. They were the forerunners, however manufactured, of groups like The GoGos and such.

I understand and respect that. And nothing against what they've accomplished it's just that I can't imagine this making money. Maybe it will be good, maybe it won't but I'm surprised someone thought that a biopic on The Runaways would be a hit. I just don't think they have a very big following compared to other musicians that they could make movies of.

People probably said the same of a movie called Sid & Nancy.

I don't think so. Everyone knows who The Sex Pistols are. Even if they weren't fans, there was no way to avoid knowing about them. Same can't be said for The Runaways.

Fanning could be a great piece of casting - this might end up being a lot of fun.
