When the movie came out, I had no idea who they were. It wasn't until years later that I found out it was about Sid Vicious. And I can't even name a Sex Pistols song off the top of my head. Not everyone was into the punk movement.

I'm not ready to write this movie off just yet. I would've been happier with unknowns playing the girls. I can see the possibility of the story getting sanitized for the PG-13 crowd.

That's fair but a lot of people really aren't into The Runaways either. And while I wasn't around during that time, I would be willing to bet a lot more people know Sid Vicious and The Sex Pistols over Joan Jett and the Runaways.

I would think more people could name a Joan Jett song rather than a Sid Vicious song... so put another dime in the jukebox, baby. I think the reputation of the Sex Pistols is of more significance than the music (and was more of an inspiration for the music).

Either way, both Sid & Nancy as well as this Runaways movie are out of the mainstream as far as music biopics. They're niche films. Did Sid & Nancy make huge box office? No. It developed a cult status on home vid. Not that I think Runaways has the same ability.

I'm pretty excited about this film, altho wary at the same time as to who's playing who. This Kristin Stewart looks NOTHING like Joan. I mean, they could have least gotten someone who closely resembled her...

After seeing Edgeplay (which I also own on DVD), I'm even amazed that Joan is even making this film, since she wanted no part of the Edgeplay documentary at all.

I wonder how "true" this movie is going to be the REAL story of the Runaways? Will it be as close as to how Cherie Currie and the rest of the girls (except Joan) confessed in the Edgeplay?

Apparently Cherie had some "fun" with Joan and Sandy at one time or another. I wonder if Joan will allow that aspect of her life as part of the movie?

I LOVE The Runaways, and never got to see them in concert, but own all their CDs and have a great bootleg of theirs. Altho I have seen Joan a few times in concert over the years.

And LiquidSky - great pic of the band (all in black one) and I was amazed to see Joan holding a cigarette - I never tagged her to be a smoker!

After seeing Sandy West in Edgeplay, and as tore up as she was about the band splitting up and STILL holding out hope they'd get back together, it was only obvious, that Sandy WAS the "heart" of the band...RIP, girl!

I heard a radio interview with Jett where she said the movie wasn't really a biographical movie about the band itself, but more of a coming-of-age story about teen girls... who happen to be in the band.


My interpretation is that it'll be more about teenage life, relationships, etc., than about recording studios and record contracts.

I guess Joan wants to continue to be super-neurotic about her personal life and what REALLY went on in the band back then.

I guess we don't get to experience the "Sex & Drugs" part of the Rock n Roll with this one.

It would be pretty good if they made it Underground/Indie type of movie from it - real gritty and very accurately portray the time period with the music, clothing, and everything else.

But looks as if we are going to see something like "Satisfaction"...yikes.
