There is a LOT of poop in the top 5. 4 movies that look terrible and one (QOS) that sucked. Australia sure as hell is hurting considering FOX spent over $200 million making and marketing this one. I cant wait to see MILK.

Twilight is having a 60% drop this weekend. Everything else in the top five? (I can't say that honestly, I really do want to see Bolt just because it's 3-D).

I'm getting to catch a sneak preview of Slumdog Millionaire on Tuesday which I'm really excited for and then I'll finally be able to catch Milk next weekend.

Then again, I'm also hoping Vegas is one of the few markets that gets Extreme Movie next weekend as well (yay for Weinsteins dumping their titles theatrically via Third Rail). A sketch comedy film about teen sex can't be awful when written by Will Forte, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone? Right?

A 60% drop for a movie that opened near $70m opening, with good business during the week, that cost next to nothing to make compared to most mainstream films, I'm sure Summit can live with. I didn't think "Twilight" was great, but it was still a fun little movie. I understand that many people left it disappointed (I thought it captured the tone of the book just fine, but it did leave out a lot of the book), so the sequel has to be way better if Summit hopes to make all of the books into films.

Poor Australia.

I still want to know where that money went. Besides a good chunk in advertising. Because I didn't even see what could look like 75M on the screen.

Wow Fox is having a BANNER year... Only one film has broken through $100m ("Horton Hears A Who") and they've had a string of high-profile, big-budget misfires.

I agree, I don't understand her appeal she's not very interesting.

I don't think the weekend drop matters as much if you aren't counting Thursday. It's 10 day total is going to be pretty impressive all things considered.

Great weekend for everything in the top five.

IMO she is the best actress/leading lady in Hollywood, sure she's been in some flops, but she isn't afraid to take a risk, and will usually succeed, a cross between talent, classic beauty and risk taking

I didn't realize Fox spent a total of $200 million on Australia. If that's true, all the pressure is on the overseas sales for this to break even.

Nicole Kidman at least appears in the occasional good movie. She makes better choices than many other actresses out there. For example Reese Witherspoon. that chick fuckin disgusts me. She appears only in shit that appears to have no effort at all put into it only to get her check and go shopping. Ditto for Sandra Bullock.

Kidman has been in some fantastic films like Dogville and Margot at the wedding and some very good (if flawed) ones like Fur, Birth, Cold Mountain, The interpreter and others mentioned. Shes not the Best actress there ever was but at least she chooses interesting projects. The fate of Australia this weekend is worrisome for fans of epics like myself. I didnt think it was that great of a film at all but it certainly had a great trailer and its a shame more people chose to see the standard tired old shit like the other top 5 films this weekend. Will studios still want to take chances an epic (in terms of scope, budget and running time) in the future even though they are almost continually tanking at the box office?

I know this did phenomenal BO and is doing well on video as well, since I've seen it on top of rental lists.

It has already played at festivals - it was at the Fantastic Fest in Austin this year and I missed it - but Magnolia's new division Magnet Films has picked it up for distribution.
