IMO she is the best actress/leading lady in Hollywood, sure she's been in some flops, but she isn't afraid to take a risk, and will usually succeed, a cross between talent, classic beauty and risk taking
No shit. I'm so sick of people placing all the box office failures on Kidman's shoulders. She's a terrific actress, and one of the better ones out there IMO. Like in the movies you mentioned above. And like I mentioned in another thread, she's an actress. Not a box office draw. And yes, she's a "movie star". But I blame her film disappointments on the director or marketing. It's certainly not her fault.

And The Bus, "What Happens in Vegas" is a TERRIBLE movie. Just because it's at the top of the rental charts certainly doesn't mean it's good. But I'm sure Fox will make quite a bit of coin off of it.

Witherspoon showed some real promise early on - check out Freeway and Election, if you haven't already.

Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Jodie Foster, Naomi Watts, Laura Linney, Kate Winslet, and Tilda Swinton can all act circles around Nicole Kidman. And that's just off the top of my head.

Well Nicole Kidman and Huge Jackman together had be at least $30 million when put together.

But still I really enjoyed this movie, I thought it was a fun epic movie. Exactly what I was hoping.

I want to contest for Sandra Bullock. I don't think she's in the same league as Nicole Kidman, but look at her body of work: "The Net," "A Time to Kill," "Miss Congeniality," "Crash"... she has some variety, and you can always buy who she's playing...

Nic Kidman picks some interesting roles, unfortunately they generally aren't great roles or great movies. Of Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge, The Others, The Hours, Dogville, Birth, Cold Mountain, and Margot at the Wedding, only Eyes Wide Shut would I consider to be a success of a film. (Moulin Rouge and Dogville were borderline unwatchable, Birth was terrible, The Others was incredibly derivative, and both Cold Mountain and Margot at the Wedding were just incredibly passive.)

That said, I give her props for trying to do interesting projects, even if they're continually less than successful.

I actually haven't seen any Witherspoon movies past Little Nicky, but I enjoyed her in Cruel Intentions (when I was in high school) and thought, and still think, that Election was fantastic and she was fantastic in it. That said, Greasy Reesey needs to branch out, but whatever pays the bills. Always chuckle when I see her in American Psycho.

This makes me wonder if PEOPLE magazine's SEXIEST MAN issue was bought by the studio. To make women go see this movie.

If acting ability is the ability to stare blankly into the distance, then Nicole Kidman is the best actress ever.

Twilight didn't drop nearly as much as I thought it would. I thought it would be around 60%.

If you're looking only at the typical 3-day weekend it did, but I think that's stupid considering the holiday.

Four Christmases? Really?

I noticed Quantum of Solace has made twice as much at the foreign box office then it has made domestically. MGM could have dumbed this down and made more money if they had babies vomiting or a Vince Vaughn stunt double fall off a roof.

Why surprised? A holiday movie that's also a romantic comedy type with super-chick appeal in Reese Witherspoon. Seems guaranteed for success over Thanksgiving.

Let's get real here. Most if not all of Reese Witherspoon's romantic comedies stink and make a load of money. So this is zero surprise to me. I just wish she would do more films and work like "Election" and "Walk the Line".

I'd have to go with Julia Roberts on that one. At least Kidman creates individual characters. Roberts always seems to play Julia Roberts, Movie Star.

Except in Ocean's Twelve and Notting Hill. Those times she was playing someone who acts like Julia Roberts, Movie Star.

Slumdog and Milk are doing well for limited releases. Zack and Miri will finish with about $31MM which is higher than Clerks II but about the same as Strike Back and Dogma.

Bolt did better than its total last week.

Quantum of Solace looks like a bit of a box office disappointment in the U.S. Not a big flop or anything, but disappointing in that it looks like it may not overtake Casino Royale, and if it does it won't beat it by much. (Actual ticket sales may be lower, too.)

I think the word of mouth on this one hurt it quite a bit. (I think the horrible editing really hurt the movie, and I don't think we'll see the same type of thing next time out.)

I don't follow your logic. Casino Royale made $167.5m in US theaters. Quantum of Solace has made $142m in 16 days and was down only 27% this past weekend (to $19.5m.) It's more or less doing really damn well.
