Most shameless, manipulative, heavy-handed, jam-the-message-down-your-throat movie?

A pet peeve of mine is a movie that attempts shamelessly to provoke a certain emotion in the audience. The all-time champ, for me, is Regarding Henry, that Harrison Ford "brain damage" movie that bashed its message against the viewer's head with a sledgehammer approach.

A more recent example, for me, is Paul Haggis' Crash, which I found to be utterly insulting. Another is The Passion of the Christ, a sadistic movie that was so heavy-handed, its audience was practically splashed with blood.

So, which movies do you feel are totally manipulative and insulting to your intelligence?

Well, Crash has already been said, so you won the thread. I grew up on Bible store Jesus movies that were less didactic.

Really? Is this a common perception? Maybe this movie made an impression on me when I was a naive early teen, but I still think E.T. has genuine emotion to it. I think it earns any tears or lumps in throats that it gets.

QFT.

Anyway....Happy Feet sticks in my mind. Up till the ending 10 minutes or so, the environmentalism and Eeeeevil Mankind bit was mostly in the background. Then WHAM in your face. Even my five year old commented on it.

That may be the most accurate war movie ever made. Directly from the book, with the man who wrote the book and vets from the actual fight on the set to insure accuracy.
