Most overrated Stanley Kubrick Movie

Unless you love everything the man has done, there has to be at least one movie of his that you disliked, or think gets too much praise.

None. Eyes Wide Shut is my least favorite (still not terrible but not one I want to see often) but it isn't that highly rated so isn't overrated. The rest are all excellent.

With the exception of Barry Lyndon, everything Kubrick made from A Clockwork Orange onwards has been quite spectacularly overrated.

I've always found that Lolita is really tough to sit through - long and mostly dull.

Full Metal Jacket, the first bit is classic, the rest is cliche and dull.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is the most over-rated (or over-praised would be a better term). EYES WIDE SHUT, consequently, is the most under-rated.

2001 is a fantastic movie and a space opera rolled into one.

I'm a fan of the movie parts, lots of thought provoking stuff, not such a big fan of the long, drawn out space stuff, chop 30 minutes off and it'd be a far more accessible movie, but that'd sort of wreck the point .

Spartacus is basically a studio spectacle film with Kubrick as a director for hire, so I'd certainly say it's his worst film, with very few creative touches, though Barry Lyndon I find to be his most overrated. Lolita's explanatory wrap-up was both long-winded and insulting, as if Kubrick thought the audience not smart enough to have followed all of the film's twists and turns successfully. I still like the film, but I view it as an overall failure to bring the book to the screen. I also can't stand Eyes Wide Shut, but it has gotten it's far share of critical bashing, so I don't think I can label it overrated. In my opinion, Kubrick made three perfect films: The Killing, Dr. Strangelove and 2001. The rest all have their flaws.

Dr. Strangelove. I've tried watching that 3 times now and while I admire parts of it, it's an extremely overrated film. Give me Fail-Safe any day of the week.

None, I love them all, though of the celebrated films, 2001 is my least favorite. Other than that, Killer's Kiss is the weakest I've seen (the only one I haven't seen is Fear & Desire).

Spartacus for me. I was honestly bored with it. I have never seen Eyes Wide Shut and don't really have a desire to.

I find it to be the opposite.

I love all his films, none are overrated.

2001 may bore people but I think the people it bores are the ones who have seen movies like STAR WARS 1st. It's like the same way people don't think much of ROCKY because they have seen that plot through out the 80's and today.
But when 2001 came out there never was anything like that. The fx are great!

Dr Strangelove is overrated, and I didn't think Spartacus was that highly rated to begin with, the rest are world class

I understand and respect it's place in movie history.......But I'm of the opinion that 2001 can cure insomnia!
