Kenneth Branagh's 65mm film 'Hamlet' on HBO this month

Since HBO seems to have film arrangements with Mr. Branagh, they showed his As You Like It to critical acclaim (no word though on his version of The Magic Flute that no one in the US has seen, unless you own or borrowed someone's import DVD).

the air dates for Hamlet are

Fri 9/12 09:00 AM HBO - EAST
Fri 9/12 09:00 AM HBO LATINO - EAST
Tue 9/23 09:00 AM HBO - EAST
Tue 9/23 09:00 AM HBO LATINO - EAST
Sun 10/26 12:10 AM HBO FAMILY - EAST
Thu 10/30 10:45 PM HBO FAMILY - EAST

HBO Schedule HAMLET

now this news sucks for me, since I no longer have HBO, cable rates got me to drop it This is one film I really wish, Warner's had actually put out on bluray, instead of just regulating it to a few cable airings, I hope they change their minds. Can someone confirm for me since the aspect ratio isn't that wide (2.20) if it's OAR or if it's a victim of HBO's standard cropping.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 2.20:1 is the OAR (on the film negative, anyway) for films shot in 70mm.

Edit: I just flipped over to imdb and they listed a 2.20:1 OAR for 70mm prints. 35mm prints are listed as 2.35:1.

I'm DVR-ing this one for sure. And didn't Branaugh say a long time ago about a SE DVD coming out? I'll just wait for hopefully a Blu Rya release. Until, I can pull out my wonderful 4 disc laserdisc set and watch it that way.

It'll go on Blu-ray if enough people watch it. Which is why they're putting it on television first.

I'd buy the BD on Day 1.

the SE did come out (August 2007)

however I'm not buying it since it should have been released on bluray on the first place, Warner Bros. have done excellent 65mm to video transfers, granted this is a niche title, Warner's has been rather hypocritical lately, saying they will be more aggressive and release more on bluray, well... release this and say 'Chariots of Fire' which would have been a great tie-in to the recent summer Olympics, the exclusion of 'The New World: Extended' is another head scratcher... Warner's has really getting on my nerves as of lately.

Nice, I didn't know it finally made it out. I'm still waiting for Blu Ray at this point. But I've never heard of that tactic - to release a movie on TV then see if enough people watch it, that it'll be released on Blu Ray. What the hell do I know though - apparently the DVD has been out, and I didn't know about it.

I picked up the SE DVD of Hamlet a few months ago at Costco. It was only $7.99.

But I would buy it on BD in a heart beat.

I would buy the BD in a heartbeat as well, but for now I'm going to stick with my recorded HD DVR version

I have been waiting for a BD version - rumor was it was coming - but nothing ever happened - Guess this would work as well as netflixing the DVD - both have to be better than my old VHS copy. I saw this in the theater on that massive 70mm print and it was absolutely amazing.

I purchased the DVD ...it took them only about 10 years to get around to releasing it on DVD, so who knows about bluray?

Hopefully not long. All of the material exists. The original transfer was 1080p, they have a commentary and documentary ready to go. They could announce it tomorrow if they wanted to.

They even told us in an online chat that it was coming to HDM formats simultaneously with the DVD.
