SNL 04/05/08 - H: Christopher Walken - MG: Panic at the Disco

Hopefully SNL will get more cowbell!

(... sorry I've been away for a few days, but I'm glad no one started this thread yet.)

The original cowbell skit aired on April 8th, 2000. Today is April 5th, 2008.

Eight years later, nearly to the day, and Christopher Walken is back as host...

Before we had cowbell, we had The Continental. Will we get more tonight?

I love Walken, but it looks like he is reading these lines for the first time.

The Walken reunion was kinda funny as it gave the entire cast (except Casey) a chance to show off their Walken accent).

Yeah, Walken's whole performance tonight looked as if it was past his bedtime.

it's really....i dunno, weird?, that walken's not making any attempt to make eye contact with the others; he's locked onto the cards.

*edit*
WTF? there's a skit on eye conact

I fell asleep after the Indoor Gardening Tips with the Guy Who's Afraid of Plants.

Despite the obvious cue card reading... I chuckled quite a bit.

Laser Cats was good. I've only watched up to Weekend Update so far.

Only saw the first half so far (fell asleep, dvr'd it) but man, Walken was driving me crazy with the cue card reading... it's bad when the host relies on them so much so that they aren't making much eye contact etc. but he just stared at the card the whole time!!! I love CW but this was pretty brutal.

His reading the cards was REALLY distracting. He even mispronounced "controversy" since he was concentrating on reading in the Greased Lightning skit.

I went throgh something very similar when a good friend of minre told me his Boy Scout troop was perfoming Greased Lightning in a talent show. He had no idea what half the lyrics were.

He was very obviously reading from the cue cards, but I enjoyed most of the sketches. The family reunion sketch was probably my favorite, but I hated Laser Cats. Was there actually any demand to do another Laser Cat digital short?

I hate that it's got to the point where no one bothers to try to remember their lines anymore (except for the new girl Casey, it seems), so the skits are almost better listened to, than watched.

Too much Cue card reading...damn. He never looked at the other actors. Always at an angle off screen.

It's been a while since I've seen an episode hosted by Walken, but I seem to remember him as always reading the cue cards. Were people this bothered by it before? I didn't find this episode to be as funny as his previous shows so maybe that made it more distracting. I'm just a little surprised by the reaction to the cue card reading this time since it's something he's always done, yet he's always been a fan favourite host.

Maybe he was doing his Pacino impression. "Hold on, theres a fly in here. And this guy is GOOD!"

Pretty shameless butt-kissing in the opening segment. Who writes for this show, dork and classicman?
