"Rosemary's Baby" is in for a rebirth.
Paramount is in negotiations with "Transformers" director Michael Bay's horror label Platinum Dunes to revive the 1968 classic for a new generation of moviegoers.
Platinum Dunes has already released remakes of such films as "The Hitcher," "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Amityville Horror," and is working on a new "Friday the 13th."
"Rosemary's Baby," based on a best-selling novel by playwright-author Ira Levin, follows a young couple who move into a gothic New York apartment, where they are befriended by their elderly neighbors. After the woman becomes mysteriously pregnant, she discovers that the neighbors actually are part of a coven of witches and that her husband has allowed her to be impregnated by the devil in exchange for a successful career.
Mia Farrow played the pregnant woman in the original Paramount Pictures film, which was directed by Roman Polanski. Co-star Ruth Gordon won an Oscar for her role.
No scribe is yet on board to write, and Platinum Dunes plans to be meticulous with the remake, knowing it has been entrusted with a jewel from the Paramount library.

I think it's a great choice. Polanski's a pretty good director, but I think he missed what the story really needed -- lots of very load, spectacular explosions.

Sweet! Whos likes watching oldz n boring movies anywas?!? Just loserz. Bay knows what hes doining and this movie is gona rule!!! He Texaz Chainsaws movie is so better then the stupid original. I fell asleep during the original. My friends saiys that Polandskiey is a hack anwayz who makes boring movies.

I think people here are a little too hard on the guy. Armageddon didn't age well, but it was thrilling when it first came out, The Island was a very fun movie (I thought anyway), and Transformers was a good summer blockbuster. And let's not forget The Rock.

If they're smart, they should compress the plot points of the original film to the first 10 minutes. Then, for the next 80 feature the Devil Baby on a rampage.
So, in other words, make it a remake of "It's Alive" as well!

Michael Bay is the definition of everything that is wrong with the summer blockbuster these days. Zero story, zero character development, CGI & Action galore with teenagers who have an attention span of about 5 seconds. Oh how I miss those summer blockbusters called Jaws, Star Wars, and Back to the Future....

I hope his company remakes every horror film ever made. It's funny reading some of the criticism. I actually enjoyed the remakes of Texax Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror, and, dare I say, The Hitcher.
It's smart on the studio's part. They get to revive a popular film for a new audience, while at the same time, put focus on the original, which they can sell to the old audience again with a new dvd.
Remaking some of these horror films isn't quite as damaging as say, trying for The Godfather or 2001.

Is that the future of Bay's career, desecrating, er, remaking old horror movies? What happens when he runs out of movies to remake? Will he remake his remake of TCM?
