Sci-Fi Channel originals thread?

Any thoughts on Showdown at Area 51?

I was struck by how little of the movie actually occurred at Area 51. Also at how much aliens look like NFL tight ends. And how much park rangers look like Jason London.

Next week: A scarecrow-comes-to-life one. This, sadly, without Ken Shamrock.

Moving to the "Why the fuck did I watch the full thing, I know Sci-fi shows crap, but I'm still watching it" forum.

What I don't like about these "Sci Fi Original Movies" is they are all censored straight to video movies. I know Mansquito was much more graphic and violent when it was finally released on DVD.

"Lake Placid 2" which aired earlier this year and is coming on DVD next year was more like a PG version.

And, of course, Highlander: The Source only became a Sci-Fi original after it failed to warrant a theatrical release (and, if you watched it, it was readily apparent why).

Is there any insect in the entire world that has not yet had a movie on Sci-Fi? And why do they all star Casper Von Dien?

I don't think they've done wood lice yet. Though I'm still holding out hope that for a giant mutant stinkbug movie next year.

I can't fault these movies entirely, since they do keep Coolio gainfully employed.

My friend was in Komodo vs. Cobra. He gets eaten by a giant Komodo dragon. It was pretty sweet.

They all seem to be such cheap productions. Acting isn't much better than softcore porn. Some of them can be so bad, though, that they're good. Love Shark Attack 2. Cringe-inducing. You wonder if the director was even trying. Great fun as a trainwreck of an experience. Mosquito is another, though I don't know if that was ever a Sci-Fi original. Stars Gunnar Hansen and a bunch of unknowns fighting giant mosquitos. Good times.

But I will give genuine props to The Hollow, a sequel of sorts to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Good cast and engaging story. Very well done.
