For me, I love classic rock; but, I have a weakness for country (Alissan Krauss), classical music (Greensleaves), and pop-rock music (like Silverchair).

I don't like the majority of rap, but I really dig Ice T.

I also like Garth Brooks.

I'm 46 and I like Green Day.

My 12-14 year old nieces and nephews love ridiculing me for having an American Idiot CD in my car.

They say I'm trying to be young by playing their music.

I just think it's a great album.

And Green Day are closer to my age than theirs.

My dad really likes green day. He can't understand the lyrics but he really likes them.

In high school, I spent most of my time listening to Minor Threat, DKs, Agnostic Front, dagNasty, Sick of it All, Youth of Today and the like.

Now Yes' "Close to the Edge" is one of the albums I play most often, I truly enjoy Blink 182, I bought Abba's greatest hits three times (gotta have the remasters) and I have a sizable collection of Dead live albums.

Im a black guy, 22 yrs. old, living in Detroit city. I look like your typical average college student black male. No baggy pants etc. but clean cut. However, everyone is surprised when they find out how much I LOVE alternative/rock. I look like your typical Kanye West/Lupe Fiasco/ Neptunes/Jay Z kinda guy (I do like them BTW) but my love for rock throws everyone off.

Do you play Close to the Edge in an "unaltered state"? I must have done 400 bong hits to that album in high school.

Are you kidding? Me, a married dad of two with a mortgage, minivan and house maintenance stress? I listen to it at a "reasonable" volume while commuting in my Mazda... somtimes I go wild and stop for a Caribou coffee.

People are probably surprised that I like country of any kind, and although I don't like much what I like, I love. Also, singer-songwriters like Carole King and Warren Zevon, although the latter might not count as much.

I don't think anyone would peg me as someone who has Black Flag's "Damaged" on his iPod.

Yeah, why don't these kids realize that the guys making the music are probably old enough to be their dads?

I'm an Asian guy that wears dress shirts and polos every day. People always find it odd when they get into my car that I listen to metal and other forms of rock music.

I'd definitely have to say ABBA. To most of my friends they're a disco group. Typical macho insecurity, I guess.

I'm seen as a metalhead, but my tastes expand to many other genres. I don't necessarily like being pigeonholed, but I am pretty metal. Most people don't expect to hear me listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, David Bowie, etc.

I do, however, hate rap, most hip-hop, punk, most contemporary groups, country and ska.

I am a metalhead by heart but still have a soft spot for the current crop of female singers coming out of the uk (amy winehouse, duffy, lilly allen ect) and what my friends call 'girly pop music' (fergie, avril, kelly clarkson ect)

I also listen to rap too, which i don't look like the fan of.

Occasionally, when my coworkers look at my iTunes library, they'll be surprised by a few artists. One was shocked that I had Rascal Flatts on there (if this is the direction of 'new country', I'm all for it!). Another told me I should hide my Snow Patrol folder (they have a few good tracks...).

I don't know... to me, all of my music taste makes sense, so it's funny when people say "you listen to THAT?? I never would have thought!". I don't really know what people expect me to be into based on how I 'look', but I guess I'm all over the map sometimes (Rap to Emo to Screamo to Old Punk to Classic Rock to New Rock to Metal to Classical to Electronica to Indie to Country). My philosophy is that I'll give any artist a chance... at least once. It makes it easier to criticize them.
