Since there is alot of classic animation coming out this year such as Popeye,Droopy Dog and Woody Woodpecker-is there no love for Felix the Cat along with The Professor,Rock Bottom,Pondeixter and The Master Cylinder.Does anyone know who owns the rights?

I actually have a Felix The Cat DVD that was put out by the same company that did the original Underdog DVDs (Sony Wonder - out of business now). Look at my collections and find it. BTW, that disc looks like it was video culled from VCR sources, but not from video tape itself. It has chapter numbers before the episodes that are out of sequence or miss entire sequences! I wrote a review of it at Amazon.com. I hope another company does pick them up - I'd like the entire chronological run from the late 50s - early 60s.

WALTER LANTZ CARTUNES (Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, et al.) are owned by Universal Pictures
SCREEN GEMS / COLUMBIA cartoons (Scrappy, Fox & Crow, et al) are owned by Columbia Pictures
WARNER BROS. CARTOONS (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, et al) are owned by Warner Bros.
UPA cartoons (theatrical 1950s Mr. Magoo, Gerald McBoing Boing, et al) are owned by Columbia Pictures.
UPA TV productions (Dick Tracy cartoons, Magoo Specials & TV cartoons, etc.) are owned by CLASSIC MEDIA LLP

• POPEYE CARTOONS are owned by Warner Bros. (Character owned by King Features/Hearst Entertainment)
• SUPERMAN CARTOONS are owned by Warner Bros. (Although all are in public Domain).
• FLEISCHER CARTOONS (includes Betty Boop, Screen Songs, KoKo The Clown (1927-1929), Animated Antics, Stone-Age and Color Classics) are owned by Republic Entertainment (a subsidiary of Viacom). Artisan Entertainment have sub-licensed the video rights.
• FAMOUS STUDIOS (1942-1950) (including Noveltoons and Little Lulu) are owned by Republic Entertainment (a subsidiary of Viacom). Artisan Entertainment have sub-licensed the video rights.
• FAMOUS STUDIOS (1950-1962) (includes Casper, Herman & Katnip, Noveltoons retitled as Harveytoons, etc) are owned by a company called CLASSIC MEDIA LLP.
• PARAMOUNT CARTOONS (1962-1967) (includes Honey Halfwitch, Swifty & Shorty, Noveltoons, etc) are still owned by Paramount Pictures.

I found a felix dvd at Walgreens for around 5 dollars while not reference quality, was still very watchable.

Bumping an old thread. Does anybody have the Felix The Cat: Golden Anniversary Edition? Supposedly this set has the complete 1958-1959 television series. How is this set? Is this the most comprehensive Felix episodes available?

I'd like more Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, the weird, Bakshi-esque 90's version.

I have the Golden Anniversary Edition. It is the complete 58-59 series, it looks great, especially for a late 50s TV show. There is a decent extra with an interivew/featurette about Felix's history. I picked it up last year in the DD sale.

I think there was a release of a couple of "Twisted Tales of..." episodes as "Felix the Cat the Movie" and "Felix Saves Christmas"

Those two releases are not from Twisted Tales, they are separate movies from Don Oriolo (son of Joe Oriolo, who was responsible for the 50's Felix TV cartoons). I picked up Felix the Cat Saves Christmas and frankly, it is quite awful.

I have 2 DVDs:

1) "Presenting Felix the Cat, the Messmer Classics-1919-24" from Image(Bosko Video)-16 cartoons

2) "Felix Feline Follies" from Lumivision(Slingshot)-9 cartoons(1913-30)
