George Lucas calls Spidey 3 "Silly"
Roger Friedman talking to Lucas at an event:
Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?
"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"
Well, it's not "Star Wars."
"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

Yeah, unlike the Oscar-worthy Howard the Duck.

I never really understand the whole "there's no story!" argument. There's always a story/plot of some kind... it just may not be complex or done very well.... but I don't see how Spidey has less of a story than Star Wars.

Spidey 3 may not live up to its predecessors, but compared to Episodes I-III, it's freakin' Shakespeare.

It's ironic Lucas would say that(besides the obvious fact that the prequels had NO FREAKING PLOT!!!) because Spider-Man 3's problem was that it actually tried to cram in too much plotwise even with a 139 minute running time.
I'd love to see a reporter ask Lucas which he found less believable. Eddie Brock turning from a whiny bitch into a raving psychotic in a matter of minutes or Anakin doing the same in Episode III? At least in Spider-Man 3, the symbiote provided a rational explanation for Eddie's turn to the dark side.

This coming from the guy who not only created Jar Jar Binks, but a whole fucking race of them, and then made them the major plot line of a movie.
Chuck Norris' beard may hide another fist, but George Lucas' hides another ass.
