Hi, I have the OOP version of Goldeneye, I was wondering if the new version is worth the upgrade?

No Not all it's exactly the same. a complete utter waste of a dvd pal

Well, there is the dts option. (and you have to buy one of the ulitmate collections to get the version with extras.

I'll stick to my LD Widescreen Special Edition.

The new dvd and the laserdisc w/dts have two different dts soundtracks.

Except for the new and remastered transfer, if you care about that sort of thing.

If the extras are worth it to you, maybe not. If you appreciate upgraded picture and sound, then it's your choice.

The transfer has been remastered, so it does look better. However, it's been cropped and zoomed in. There are comparison screenshots all over the web so you can determine if that's a deal breaker for you.

I compared both versions and it is a significant difference in picture and sound. If you love Goldeneye, it is a no brainer (imo).

I bet it looks just great on a 60" widescreen HDTV. :rolleyes

That is interesting. Is this is the only movie where this is a problem? Is this perhaps the correct framing and the others have been too zoomed OUT?

That's pretty much the debate...however on BulletsNBabes they said Campbell supervised the extras so perhaps he looked over the transfer as well. Personally, I didn't even notice until I read that thread so I was still absorbed into the movie. However, it's not about what I prefer but rather what is right, which is still a mystery at this point.

As for similar cropping issues, A View To Kill seems slightly cropped on some sides, however the opening scene is extremely cropped which can be seen in the 3rd set of comparison pics here.

Gonvik I couldn't agree with you more - it's correctness, not preference.
