Is your local Blockbuster renting HD discs?

Just found out the Queens location by me is renting them. Gonna have to check it out this weekend. Anyone else?

Would be cool to try and get some sort of list going...

Yes, I rented MI3 and even signed up for a two week online trial so I could catch up on a few more.

Local franchise and local corporate-owned location? No at both. Reason? "Too expensive and not enough interest." The clerk at the corporate-owned location helpfully suggested I sign up for the online trial, where I can get them.

The guy at my BB said he had them out on the shelves then was told to pull them for now. He had no reason why though.

I think they pulled them because they didn't have the proper signage. That should be fixed by now.

Not here. I'm just thankful they finally started getting widescreen versions.

Mine didn't have any when I went...although, they seem a bit behind lately. Maybe only the HIGH traffic stores get them. That is how they handles the PS3/Wii (only certain stores got them)

I'll check again though.

One Blockbuster near me has a panel of Blu Ray and a panel of HD DVD. I rented KOH on BD. They cost the same as regular DVDs and can be used with the movie pass. Hardly any of either format are ever checked out though... which is good for me I guess.

Another Blockbuster said they had them and were about to put them out but at the last minute were told to return them to corporate without any explanation.

Oh I'm in north Dallas btw.

I wonder how robust the HD DVD rentals will be as far as the playback through the inevitable scratches on such rentals.

I asked my Blockbuster and they really didn't even know what HD DVD was (they too thought that all DVDs were HD). At least you can get them online. However, I've had Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift as number one in my que for over a month and still it's not available.

Finally got to the one in Queens tonight. Horrible HD DVD selection. Not bad on the BD and I did notice a good # were rented out.

The only HD DVD's out were the ones that I took. I have to admit, though, they were all the WB/Paramount catalog titles. No new titles to be seen.

Well, here's an 8 month bump. I jumped on a recent Amazon deal and will be receiving my HD player before getting movies in the mail (up to a week early). I called today to see if any stores around here rent HD-DVD and nobody does. Quite surprised since I'm in a populated area. This includes Hollywood Video and a few Blockbusters. I was told one Blockbuster does rent, but it's 30 minutes away.

Netflix is great and I'll probably rejoin just to rent HD-DVD, but I wanted to rent locally at a B&M for a quick fix. Guess not. I even called a few places to purchase used, but none of these stores stocked any either.

Um, Blockbuster signed a deal to exclusively carry only Blu Ray. That's why you can't find HD DVD there.

Um, sorry, just started getting into this stuff. That's fine, I'm just going to go back to Netflix and I'll have to wait a few days before watching an HD flick.

Wait a sec... one nearby store I called said that two Blockbusters a little far from my home rent HD-DVD. Was he mistaken?

They carried HD-DVD in the beginning. As of a few months ago, they stopped carrying new titles. They may have older titles.

I believe the deal was that they'd stop renting out any recent hd-dvds, but would rent out all of their current inventory.

Not yet - McCorkle Ave. is alittle slow on the draw, but all the employees are geeking out about getting them in 'shortly'.

No, but all the locations in my area are franchises so nothing happens here until 8-12 months after corporate has done something.

My store has none.....but I created a thread in the store Forum about what stores have them. Please post there and I'll try to keep updated.

Since mine has none, I may switch my Blockbuster.com account to Netflix.com soon enough.

My local Blockbuster has quite a few, in the new rental section, with a couple of racks with the same display the new titles have (ie, photo cards at the back to indicate the disc is out at this time).
