High pitch whine from back of CRT HDTV

I recently picked up a Toshiba 30hf66 CRT tv has been emitting a high pitched whine. Sort of like a PC fan or HD sound.

Usually it'd happen when it was on for a bit, and turning it off and on would fix it. But now the noise seems constant! What's causing this sound?

It was an open box from Best Buy a couple months ago so I don't think I have much warranty if it's a severe problem. But any ideas as to what's the problem?

Try hitting it on top. Just one small but swift whack should be effective.

Well - that used to work for an old 12" 1970s portable I used to have. Made that same type of whine you are talking about!

You should still have the manufacturer's warranty on open box purchases which Best Buy is supposed to owner so check how long that was for. Hopefully it's a year warranty, or if it's 3 months that you have owned the TV less than that.
