Is it time for an HD Bargains sub forum?

Having just bought the Samsung BD, I have been looking around for the best bargains. I checked out the bargain thread, but it is 27 pages long and jumps all over the place. I don't have time to sort through all of it. I know there are not a ton of deals out there right now, but I think there are going to be a lot more between now and the holidays. It would also be very nice to have specific threads, for example, on the Amazon 10% off deal, the Google deal and the upcoming Deed Discount DVD deal instead of one hodge podge thread.

What does everyone else think?

Deals are so few and far between either they should be in the thread or in their own thread if it's a big enough sale.

Well... like I said in my original post, it is much more convienient to click on a single thread, Google check out, and only read discussion on that bargain. Now we have four or five different disccussions all going on in one thread. It would be nice to have a "What is the best deal on (fill in the blank)" for the big new release of the week. We would also be less likely to miss out on a hot deal if it had its own thread.

Maybe its just me...

I personally like seperate threads rather than trying to weed through a 600+ post thread.

They won't do separate BD/HD subforums. You think they're going to do one for the odd "bargain" that happens?

I think there are more bargains on the players right now than the discs.

I agree, I think I've missed a few good deals on some of the amazon misprices that are taken down quickly. If there were threads in a sub forum I think I'd check that more often. I think the thread is working pretty well, but it's tough to know how far back to find deals that may or may not be expired. I know I was lucky to get in on the mjentertainment deal only because I looked at the right time, a lot of those titles disappeared in a day or two.

Yeah I have to agree with the responses above. While there will obviously come a time when a separate deals forum will be needed, we are still quite a ways off from being at that point. Right now I think the one thread which is updated consistently is quite adequate for the time being.

Other than the occasional bargains found in your local Fry's ad or a possible $14.99 title at Amazon.... there really isn't much other than:

Amazon 10% Off
mjentertainment.net (OOS for a couple of weeks now)
Google Checkout

I was actually just looking through the bargain thread and thought the same thing, a subforum would be good

Actually...maybe what we could do is have an official "all-encompassing" thread for disc and player deals and just do a different one every week.

Would a mod be ok with that? Kinda like Speedy's updates in the bargain area. I'd be happy to do it.

I'd go start out with a monthly thread first and then see if the activity justifies a weekly frequency.

I'd be happy if the thread didn't turn into a discussion. If it were simply for posting deals, I think that it would be sufficient.

Then we should have two threads:

One for posting deals and the other for deal discussion.

I'll try and come up with something tonight for November.

Perhaps the main thread with all the deals could be the "sticky" and the discussion thread could be a part of the main forum?

They should both be stickies, so we don't lose track of them.

However, someone should be in charge of maintaining/wiping the threads each month (for inactive deals).

It might be a good idea to at least have separate deals threads for HD-DVD and BD. BD owners must get frustrated having to wade through all the HD-DVD comments to get to the deals on BDs.

Nah. Mods aren't going to go for that. They have enough stickies here already and won't do any more. And to be honest, if there's enough discussion to merit it, the "discussion thread" will always be on the first page anyway.

I'll wipe it every month and add or change deals as they happen. Perhaps it's not so much a monthly thread so much as a main thread of deals.

I'll try and put the best price up there for each disc as well.

Thanks for taking the initiative. It might also make sense to have the top post in the thread contain a "deal summary", if you are up to the extra effort.

That is just overkill. Then we would have 3 threads for deals and that is just uneeded at this point in time. This forum is HD-DVD heavy right now. I am sure that it will become more balanced as time goes on but in the mean time I think its a mistake to clog the forum with 3 different deal threads when deals on HD are so few and far between. Is it really that hard looking through a couple pages of posts for a deal?

I meant just two threads total.

I think discussion even in the same thread is fine, as long as the first post in the thread is constantly updated with the new info (with valid offer dates, and maybe bolding the latest and greatest bargains).

This means one person has to keep up on it, which is sounds like would not be a problem. Then the thread could grow to 900 pages and all people would need to look at is the first post, assuming it was managed properly.

That's an awesome idea, I know that would be extremely helpful for me. It also sounds like a huge undertaking for one person, but I think if we just got a list together and got it moving we could all help keep it updated through Digi.

Well, I don't know if we need a seperate forum just yet, but a new sticky thread every couple weeks would help. The HD forum is seeing a lot more activity, so breaking it up a little may help at some point, especially after the holiday's if there is a huge influx of new owners. For now though I think we are good with just one, I don't frequent AVS a lot, but the multi forum deal over there is a little cumbersome - they do have a lot more people it seems though and that may be why they do it.
