A two disc set, with only 16 songs. I figured they could get a lot more on there, but I guess I'll wait to see what the actual specs are.

I'm hoping this a worthwhile set. I was considering going to the show last year, but was only really into a couple of the bands on the roster. I opted to save the cash and wait for the DVD.

That's kind of how I felt, not to mention it was at Fiddler's Green. I like Megadeth, and I really like Fear Factory, but there was no way I was going to support Fiddler's.

INAUGURAL ‘GIGANTOUR' FESTIVAL TOUR

TO ARRIVE IN STORES ON DELUXE TWO-DISC CD AND DVD SETS
VIA IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT;

INCENDIARY LIVE PERFORMANCES FROM MEGADETH,
DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY AND MORE;

DVD FEATURES SPECIAL BONUS DISC
OF ALL THE NO-HOLDS-BARRED BACKSTAGE ACTION

As news of the return of GIGANTOUR becomes imminent, last year's fast and furious inaugural festival tour arrives in stores on deluxe 2-CD and 2-DVD sets August 22 and September 5, respectively, via IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT. Both configurations capture 2005's heavy metal onslaught that was hailed as the best metal bill of the year, with Revolver magazine calling it “the mother of all shred fests.” Organized by MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE as a tour featuring “only bands whose musicianship matches their ability to melt faces with sheer volume and power” ( Miami Herald ), GIGANTOUR features unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, DREAM THEATER and FEAR FACTORY as well as Anthrax (CD only), Nevermore, Life of Agony, Symphony X, Dry Kill Logic and Bobaflex.

The GIGANTOUR DVD set encompasses a special bonus disc with all the no-holds-barred offstage action: tour bus visits, backstage drama, practical jokes plus interviews with the people who make a national package tour happen, like tour managers, pyrotechnics experts and band members. The GIGANTOUR CD contains three songs not included on the DVD.

"There are a few very successful tours out each summer and in order to be significant, I knew the first GIGANTOUR had to make an impact with top bands,” says MUSTAINE. The six-week tour--with bands personally chosen by MUSTAINE--was designed to help bring like-minded hard rock fans together at a reasonable price, with most tickets in the $40 range. “I wanted to put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high-energy environment,” MUSTAINE said in the July ‘05 Guitar World . “I think the variety of playing styles and the credibility of the different players is really exciting.” The Orange County Register agreed, saying, “…it does a heart good to see Mustaine able to buck the chameleon trend of rock and stay firm to his ideals, keeping the music the priority and not the image.”

Stay tuned for news about GIGANTOUR 2006, as tour dates will be announced soon. For more information, check out www.gigantour.com or www.megadeth.com .

I'm disappointed as well. I'm in the DT camp. Two songs? Same with Symphony X. Not worth it to me.

but while it is only 2 songs from dt, at nearly 20 minutes, their brief sampling set is longer then all of the other bands.

REVIEW:

By Melanie (Sass) Falina

"This is a tour," said Megadeth front man and the conceptualist of Gigantour, Dave Mustaine, "for people who love the guitar solo."

…As is this musical conglomeration of highlights of 2005's Gigantour, one of the top music tours last year. This two-disc DVD is a loud, in-your-face, and yet – lighthearted – showcase of not only Megadeth, but all the diverse bands Mustaine invited to join him for his metal festival.

Segments between each group show band members talking about how they came to be on the tour, and Mustaine also elaborates on how he came to choose the bands. Bobaflex, for example, was chosen partly because Mustaine's son is a fan of the group.

Mustaine not only comes across as the metal-head Megadeth fans know and love, but also the well spoken and intelligent man who brainstormed his project, and is so much more than just the long haired guy sneering over his guitar.

Some exceptional moments on the DVD include…

Bobaflex performing 'Better For Me' – A nice blend of harmonies combined with a raw, crushing power. Bobaflex is also as entertaining to watch as they are to listen to, as each member gives a unique and colorful performance.

Dry Kill Logic's union of classic thrash with a contemporary sound performing 'Paper Tiger' and 'Lost.'

Nevermore doing 'Born' – Overflowing with a heady dose of top-notch metal guitar licks. And during 'Enemies' there are several shots of the feral mosh pit.

Symphony X's Russel Allen remarked about Gigantour: "We just knew we need to do this." 'Inferno' and 'Sins And Shadows' showcased the bands Yngwie-ish guitar and keyboard parts, and put on a show of solid, traditional metal.

Life Of Agony really shows that they've got the goods. 'Day He Died' with it's concise grooves and modern sound. And during 'Love To Let You Down,' Life Of Agony's vocalist, Keith Caputo , is practically crawling out of his skin on stage, but there's no doubt this guy is going to take this band to the top.

Video game superstars - Fear Factory - doing 'Transgression' and 'Archetype,' and pounding out the metal with authoritative aggression.

Dream Theater's 'Glass Prison' and 'Panic Attack.' What can possibly be said about Dream Theater that's never been said before? Their performance, as per the norm for this band, is the culmination of a group of musicians each on top of their game, all working in unison and running like a high performance hot rod whilst never coming up for air.

And the man of the hour – Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and company performing 'She Wolf' - proving that you don't have to unleash guttural screams in order to rock. Also, goose bump inspiring audience participation in 'A Tour Le Monde,' in addition to 'Kick The Chair.'

Disc Two is loaded with interviews, back stage footage, and practical jokes. There's also an informal Pyro 101 course with the pyrotechnics dude, tours of the band's buses, and a tribute to Dimebag Darrell. Scenes from the Gigantour softball game critiqued by Major League Baseball hottie Mike Piazza – which resulted in the auctioning off of the uniforms to benefit The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, an organization which supports music education.

There are also snippets of the Anthrax guys on and back stage, and giving Mustaine a personal performance in his dressing room in honor of his birthday. Sadly, there are no full-length songs by Anthrax included on the DVD.

Saying this DVD is a must for any metal music fan is a bit cliché, but it's also a huge understatement.

Gerry,

Is this an online exclusive, or will this bonus DVD be available in stores also?

I went to BB on Sunday to return a DVD and decided to look for this, so I found one copy of the cd which had the bonus DVD. The DVD version comes out today so I don't know if it also comes packed with it.

The 2CD was priced at $13.99. I passed on it... then I saw the online thingy and saw the lower price on it and decided to get it.

Thanks. I found the same thing at my local BB today, also. Only the CD w/DVD bonus, but they didn't have the new DVD set. Actually, none of the local shops had it (Tower, CC, and BB). Thanks for the link. I ordered both online today to save the hassle of continuing my search. Free shipping? Sold!

No problem [Jippy & Snowmaker]

yeah the free shipping helps alot. Having to go to a/or different BB just to find one copy of each could be a hassle knowing that they won't know what we are looking/asking for.

That sucks [Snowmaker]. Same situation here, well kinda.

Got my CD w/ bonus DVD on Saturday. Today came the DVD [mine & my brother's] and that did not come with the bonus DVD. So I guess it's only with the CD.

Anyway watched the DVD today and gotta say I enjoyed it alot [more than I thought]. The picture & audio quality of the live performances is great. The 2nd disc has a documentary that is 50 minutes and was cool... And I like the slipcover alot, feels like it's made from snake skin . I'll be keeping it instead of tossing it [as I usually do with slipcovers].

Just need to listen to the CD and watch the bonus DVD.

I like the fact that I got 2 Dream Theater songs that are not on any of their other live DVDs.

Plus, I finally have some Symphony X live footage!!

ok watched the bonus DVD. It's 15 minutes long. It's basically a companion piece to the Full DVD. It coulda easily been added to the documentary, cause it doesn't really repeat any of the footage. Call it deleted scenes if U will.
