UFC: Ultimate Fight Night 3 - Live 1/16/06 on SpikeTV
They are having the best of 2005 for 3 hours prior to the live card which is at 10 eastern / 9 central. So 5 hours of MMA tonight!!
The Card:
Tim Sylvia (263) vs. Assuerio Silva (236)
James Irvin (204) vs. Stephan Bonnar (205)
Drew Fickett (169.5) vs. Josh Burkman (170.5)
Chris Leben (185.5) vs. Jorge Rivera (184) vs
Melvin Guillard (168) vs. Josh Neer (170)
Duane “Bang” Ludwig (171) vs. Jonathan Goulet (169.5)
Aaron Riley (169.5) vs. Spencer Fisher (169)
Alex Karalexis (171) vs. Jason Von Flue (170)
Plus there is supposed to be a HUGE announcement tonight also. Click here if you want potential spoilers: http://www.mmaweekly.com - I HATE the first one, what a waste of match. The last one is a must and it's about time because of horrendous HW class. I also heard that one of the announcements may be that they will have a live show each and every month this year.
Hopefully they will be better with all the fluff crap that happened last 2 times and get 5 fights in, but most likely they will show 4.
Assuerio Silva isn't that bad but Sylvia will KO him in round one.
The Leban/Bonnar are VERY close and could go either way. Jorge Rivera has been in with the best and even beat David Loiseau. I pick Rivera in a close decision. Bonnar/Irvin will end in a KO for sure, Bonnar in 2 as Irvin is a bit overrated but we really don't know how good Bonnar is and this is a huge test for him.
Drew Fickett vs. Josh Burkman - Will be one boring ass fight. Fickett was the guy who was getting dominated by Josh Koscheck for 14:45 seconds until the last 10 where he caught him with the knee and choked him out. Fickett will win though as he is much better and couldn't show off his skills against the master of lay and pray Koscheck.

Does anyone know if they are going to be re-running the best of 2005 show?

That was an AWFUL show. I've never seen so many short submission matches on one show in my life. I was bored to tears, they should have had an extra match or two on backup in the event the matches went less than one round. That whole show literally sapped my UFC enjoyment quite a bit, now the next PPV is in question for me.

If you go down town
I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn
We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a crop line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive

And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn
We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a crop line
And a country boy can survive

I don't see how you can say it was a bad show but I respect your opinion. We saw some big knockouts, greats subs, and some people looking like they may be ready to step up to the big-time. What I heard was the Ludwig fight wasn't going to be aired but since things went so quickly, they did add this one in. For a free event, I think it was a solid show. The only thing the UFC screwed up on was saying their annoucement would change MMA. I like the match-up but it is not as big as they were making it out to be.

My opinion of how poor the show was is due to the fact that most of the fights were mismatched. Bonnar Vs. Irvin for example, Irvin got his ass handed to him by that tiny, pudgy guy last fight on the ground and won with the luckiest shot I've ever seen (flying knee). Bonnar is known to be very adept at submissions and literally just threw him to the ground (twice) and worked VERY SLOWLY to hook that armbar in. Not to mention that 5 second fight (can't even remember their names) where the guy rushed with his head in front of his fists, it was ridiculous. I'm not expecting every fight to be an absolute battle, but these fights were so one sided that there was no tension or excitement. I can't stand Chris Lebin, but at least those guys were going at it for about 90 seconds before he landed that nice (but somewhat weak looking) left to the chin. You're right, it is hard to whine because it was free, but I think they've raised the standard of these fight nights and PPVs to give something memorable.

So what does everyone think of the upcoming Gracie-Hughes matchup? I won't completely discount Gracie's chances, but I'm not sure if he has the kind of depth necessary to beat someone like Hughes. I very much could be wrong, and it wouldn't be a total shocker if Gracie were able to slap a submission on Hughes. I would be shocked if Gracie KO'd him, though.

My prediction on the Gracie/Hughes fight. Gracie will get "injured" in training and not be able to fight. Just like when he was supposed to fight Mark Kerr back in 97.

Gracie got beat (but it was a draw because Royce only fights under special rules) by a 150 pound janitor on New Years Eve. No special rules for him in the states as it's through the Nevada Sate Athletic Commision.
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/f...fighterid=2276 - here is the 150 pound scrawny dude who beat him.
This is a HUGE mismatch and I'm pissed as the winner of GSP vs Penn in UFC58 has to wait some more for a title match. Hughes in 2 with ground and pound.
