I end up reading that it is getting a bunch of comparisons to Arrested Development but with a laughtrack. I haven't seen any previews. Does it look funny? Oh, and if it is going against My Name Is Earl or the Office, I probably won't watch it.

Even with a decent lead-in, I'll be surprised if this show makes it more than a month, no matter how good or bad it is. The timeslot is brutal.

Wow, that was pretty bad.
It almost seemed like they started out with an idea for a darker, cutting-edge type comedy, but then they hired a bunch of sitcom writers to make the dialog "punchy" shot it mostly on bad soundstage set (replete with the generic standard sitcom living room), and then added a really inappropriate laugh track. The laughs were just horrible, the track would laugh hard at every single thing a character said and then hardly at all at the more offbeat/funny things.
And then you have a scene talking about a brother who drowned and all this heavy emotional stuff, it just seemed really disjointed.
I can laugh at the protagonist being in the closet, or the mother having a nervous breakdown-- I can see how those things could be played for laughs. But they are throwing some stuff in which would be more appropriate for a dramedy type show.
I won't be watching again. I think it could have been a good show without all the tired sitcom conventions.

Watched it, too. I was hoping for a lot of laughs, but they tried walking the line between lots of comedy with poignant moments of serious drama sprinkled in ala other shows that pull it off beautifully like Scrubs and MASH...and it just didn't work for me. I might try watching a couple more times to see if they can get a rhythm going with such a strong cast, but being up against The Office and CSI isn't helping them.

Yep, really wanted to like it. Great cast and decent premise. But full of tired sitcom conventions, and the drama moments thrown into the mix weren't much better.
