Space: Above & Beyond @ Best Buy on 9/6

TVShowsOnDVD is reporting there's gonna be yet another Best Buy exclusive for everybody's favorite "When the hell is it ever gonna come out?" release for Space: Above and Beyond slated for 9/6 at a price of $41.99.

Well, looks like I may have to finally get an account with Best Buy, if they continue with this kind of crap.

At this point I don't care who releases/distributes it as long as the picture and audio quality are good. $45 isn't too bad for 24 episodes.

Agreed! In my opinion, no normal tv season on dvd should be over 50 dollars!

Take care all!!

Yeah, this one ain't too bad. But $49.99 for 13 episodes in the BSG set is a little...well alot, ridiculous.

I may just have to get this S:AAB set from Best Buy if a wider release isn't announced sooner.

Great. Let's teach the retailers that they don't have to compete on price any more. Instead, they should invest their money in negotiating exclusive deals with distributors so they can sell in-demand product for whatever the market will bear.

The distributors win. The retailers win. The studios win.

We lose.

And we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.

If you really don't want to get it through Best Buy, just wait. I bet this'll be the same as the BG situation, 2 months of exclusivity before the full release.

Yeah, I'll wait till the exclusive ends and look for a better price somewhere. No big deal. A couple of months wait won't make a difference.

If I am lucky, the exclusivity will end just in time for the next DDD 20% sale.

Well, I agree with you to some extent, but quite frankly, I can't see S:AAB going for much less than $45, but then again, Earth 2 and Cleopatra 2525 are going for roughly $35/each.

Don't know if you all caught this, but the Bits is reporting that the BB exclusive set will be the exact same set that will get the wide release later in the year. So in this particular case, it might be worth picking up the BB exclusive.

I've been waiting for a long time for this one. I'm not sure if I'm going to wait to possibly save $5-$10 or not. I'd rather get this sooner than later, but if I can save $10 it would be worth the wait. $5? I'm not so sure.

I'll add to the recommendations to avoid picking this up until everyone has it. This whole exclusive deal thing is hurting the customers. Not to mention, Best Buy has demonstrated with the Oblongs exclusive that they'll charge MSRP just because it's an exclusive. Wait until more stores have it and get it at a better price.

I don't like the idea of being forced to buy from a certain retailer, even if it's the same price and content. I'll wait.

Good news! BestBuy.com has updated their listing for this title. The new date is now almost a month earlier, on September 6th! What could be better than that? How about a slight price break? They are now showing that your purchase price will be $41.99!
For the lazy folks (like myself).

Think of it this way: it's not just the $5 or $10 extra you pay now. It's the cumulative increase in prices if this trend is proven to be profitable, and more and more retailers make deals with studios for exclusives. Eventually, dozens or hundreds of desirable titles will be delayed from general release while they go through this higher-priced exclusivity period.

The only way we can prevent this is to reject it.

It's very similar to the "rental window" that delayed so many VHS releases from retail availability, a concept that sends DVD collectors into convulsions every time it's threatened.

Be patient. There are other things to watch. Don't serve the giant retailers; make them serve you.

I whoelheartedly agree with the above post... I won't be buying any "exclusive/early" releases from anyone for this reason.
