Let's talk about Nights of Cabiria (Spoilers)
Well, I watched Nights of Cabiria last night for the first time. I didn't really know what to expect. I had always heard Fellini's two best were 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, but Nights of Cabiria has to be up there as one of his best. Much more powerful of a film than La Strada was.
It would've been nice if I had been given a warning going into the film. I was not expecting to watch the most heart-wrenching film I had ever seen. The ending was so incredibly depressing. Even though the last shot is of Cabiria smiling, which managed to put my mind at ease for a few moments. After the credits stopped and I started thinking about the film and felt sad again. Very powerful film.
I do believe this is one title Criterion should re-visit. It is certainly worthy of the 2-disc treatment and I'd love to see more extras than just trailers and a restoration demo.

Haven't seen it for a while, but I did like it very much. I would not say it is the most depressing film I've ever seen, but yes it was very sad.
The acting was GREAT as well, that I do remember. It was strange seeing an American actor such as Richard Baseheart in an Italian film. Yes, the Criterion disc is superb, definately one of their best.

I love this movie as though it were an actual person.
Giulietta Masina is amazing. I love the way she uses her body, and I could stare at that moon face of her's for ages. After watching Cabiria I couldn't understand why she didn't become one of the biggest actresses in the world.
This is certainly my favorite Fellini movie. There are so many moments that make me split my face smiling with glee. One of my most beloved moments in the history of the movies is Cabiria dancing at the night club. She's so out of place and awkward, realises it, but continues to dance her ass off.
She convinces me at the end that everything will be alright. It is sad, and maybe I'm just being foolish, but when she smiles I believe that there is a happy ending for her somewhere.

Not my favorite Fellini, but it gets my vote as his best.
