I know there was some discussion of this in the NIN thread...
I'm so sick of the Anti-Piracy logo already that it's killing me. There's this beautiful artwork (well, sometimes) created for packaging and discs and now there's this damn logo that's getting stuck on everything... Case and Point - the Star Wars ROTS Soundtrack bonus DVD - the Image on the disc is quite cool looking, and then there's this damn FBI logo...WTF? What's next? There's TONS of fake clothes and knock of shoes and such running around - is that next? Will there be a "anti-counterfit" logo on clothing soon, so you know your friggin' Fubu shirt that you bought on the corner for 50% less than retail was actually made by the "official" prison labor in Mexico as opposed to the "unofficial" shop right next door?

What's to stop counterfeiters from counterfeiting the FBI logo?

I hate the warning, too. At least with the new System of a Down CD, it is affixed to the shrinkwrap so it goes in the trash. That's not so bad.
And I do like the print above the label on Elvis Costello's The Delivery Man: "This artist does not endorse the following warning. The F.B.I. doesn’t have his home phone number and he hopes that they don’t have yours."

as long as i can still copy the cd to my hard drive for convenience, and it doesn't seem to interfere with the artist's work, then they can put whatever ridiculous warning they want on the cd case. it won't bother me.

The anti-piracy logos and ads are just to appease all the right-wingers out there who don't want to see anyone get anything for free, even though there's been no proof that anyone's been harmed financially by downloading or what-not. They're also to divert attention away from the fact that the reason the record companies may be losing money is because MOST OF TODAY'S ARTISTS SUCK ASS! If the record companies want to see profits go up, they need to START PUTTING OUT SOMETHING RESEMBLING GOOD, REAL MUSIC!!!

That kind of copy protection is very easy to get around. It's a matter of doing a google search for instruction on how to disable the drive that is installed.
Or simply hold shift down when inserting the cd for the first time to keep it from auto playing and installing the program, then rip the songs.
