I was just flipping through the channels & found that FX is running the original version of Blade Runner (with the Harrison Ford voiceover). Looks like it'll be on again tomorrow at 7pm eastern. Unfortunately, it is pan & scan & full of commercials, but I thought some people might be interested.

I'm never sure if threads like this should be in TV or Movie Talk...

so what's the difference between this and the DC DVD that i got?

That would be the aforementioned Harrison Ford voiceover, plus the so-called

no idea on laps, it looks to be qualifying crap and not the actual race

this is one time where a sports thing running over was a good thing. I just wish they had had a commercial eralier saying when to expect BR to be on so that I didn't have to worry about missing the start while I was making dinner

so, are there any other movies where the original is preferred over the directors cut as much as in the case with many Blade Runner fans?
other than the obvious, Star Wars

The voice-over is awful. Harrison Ford just sounds too chripy, not like a hard boiled detective like Sam Spade, which I think was the intent. The quietness where the VO should be in the DC gives the film a bit more emotional depth and ambiguity, instead of just stating it matter of factly outloud for the audience.

I haven't seen it yet, but several reviews of the new Donnie Darko director's cut have stated they preferred the original because the plot wasn't as explicitly explained.

I find the original theatrical version better than the hybrid 'DC'(it's not the true DC and Scott has been honest about that).


I first saw the so called 'DC' and was less than impressed with the film. Nice set design,but little else.

After a couple years,I found the original uncut(has more explicit violence) VHS and decided to check it out for curiosity value.

I ended up liking the film alot more this time,and think the VO was not nearly as bad as people make it out too be. In fact,I love the VO durring Rutger Hauers death scene,it's pretty sad and tragic and just works.


Just so you know,The Sci-Fi Channel aired the original version in widescreen a few years ago. They also show the 'DC' sometimes as well. So keep your eye out for it!

I am going to try to get the Criterion laserdisc someday,since the original cut won't be out on dvd anytime soon.


ps-I do hate the crappy tacked on 'happy ending'. It works best ending when the elevators doors shut in the 'DC'.

So my preferd cut would include..

VO..uncut violence and the 'DC' ending at the elevator doors slamming shut.

Darn. I was flipping through the channels yesterday and saw Blade Runner on FX, but figured since it was P&S, it wasn't worth a watch. I've never seen the Original version, but have been wanting to.

I actually have the original theatrical version on a Special Edition 2-disc DVD, with added bonus material (which does NOT include the DC)...
