Chasing Amy 10th Anniv DVD release

Sure, it's a little early to announce it (two years away, I guess), but there will, apparently, be a 10th anniversary re-release for 'Chasing Amy'.

I say this because Kevin Smith just announced, via his website, that they will be screening "Chasing Amy" at the end of March (along with other films, some produced by him, one the "Lovely Tea Party" documentary) in LA, and taping a Q&A which, according to the announcement, is being shot for inclusion on the 10th anniversary 'Amy' disc.

question is, will Criterion handle the re-release?

My guess -- strictly a guess, since there's no official word either way -- is that it would not be Criterion. I don't think Disney would want to deal with Criterion again unless Kevin Smith insisted on it, and I don't know that he would (or that they'd care to listen). Since his movies are so profitable on DVD, they probably would not want to share that with Criterion, even if Criterion helps with the cost.

I wonder if he will say "fuck HD-DVD!" and then do a new introduction addressing the comment when the disc is being made.

boy, Kevin Smith is milking the fuck out of the cash cow! I'm really getting sick of all these different versions when the original "collector's edition" has more than enough stuff on it. maybe he should be making better movies than constantly releasing new versions of his films. don't get me wrong, I adore Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy, but Smith really seems to have changed into a different person.

Or maybe he's just giving the fans what they want. I know most fans would buy new versions with Q&A's and shit. I sure has hell do!

I believe it's the train station sequence w/ the porno mags. The image is shifted up so the heads are cut at the top more than they should be. It is a known error that was never corrected. Funny how the commentary (ported from the LD) mentions how much they like the framing of that scene.

No shit. I'll double dip, but didn't he say at the time of the Mallrats X edition that there is nothing more they could add that wasn't on the Criterion release? I guess that is why they are filming new shit.

Damn, Kevin Smith, how about you make new movies instead of re-releasing every old one you made. Not that I was a big fan of him in the first place but I think less and less of him every year.

The original Clerks DVD was a shitty rehash of the Laserdisc. Was I pissed off that Smith and Miramax put together a rockin' three-disc edition instead? No. I welcomed it with welcome arms.

Does Mallrats need a new DVD release, especially after how full-blown the initial one was? Maybe not. Will I buy it? Yes. There are NUMEROUS things missing from the current release (television version with commentary which Smith really wants to have on there, additional deleted scenes, MTV special from 1995, etc) that could easily be on the new release that I would fork over the money for.

Does Chasing Amy need a new DVD release, especially after Smith claimed that EVERYTHING was already on the current DVD? No. But I'll probably fork over the dough to get a new transfer and maybe a retrospective documentary (if done like the Snowball Effect).

Oh yeah, fuck Kevin Smith. "Fuck him up his stupid fucking ass," right? Who cares about Clerks 2 and Danger Ranger and the Ranger Dangers (or whatever the hell it's called), right?

I'm guessing "Oh What a Lovely Tea Party" will be on one or the other.

And I'm also hoping we don't have to wait until the tenth anniversary of 'Jersey Girl' to see the extended cut.

Here are some ideas:

1) Buy the new version and keep the old version

2) Buy the new version and sell the old version

3) Don't buy the new version

Why the fuss?

Thanks for picking up my slack--yep, that's the scene...it really stands out, and I was always so disgusted that, with all of Criterion's pomp and circumstance regarding their mission to preserve quality cinema, they just turned the other cheek on this situation and pretended nothing was wrong...

And if the new one isn't Criterion, it being an Out of Print Criterion should drive those E-bay prices up a bit. [I'm assuming it'll go out of print before the new one comes out.]

Not much, since it's *so* cheap, but a bit.

I'm just wondering if "what a lovely tea party" will ever be released.
