What have been some good foreign dvds in last year?

I have not bought a foreign film since Swimming Pool and I sure that is at least year ago. I need my foreign fix. I use to buy them on weekly basis(especially if it was french as they seem to do no wrong in my book) but I have fallen behind. Any link to list or recommendations appreciated.

Do you mean recent movies that are coming out for the first time on DVD or do you mean old foreign movies that have a good DVD treatment?

A big thumbs up to all of the above, which I also own.

I buy a lot of foreign films, but most are older films (often from Criterion). I'm happy to list my 15-20 favorites of these from the past year, but I suspect you're looking for foreign films which were released theatrically in the last year.

Check out Buffet Froid from Bertrand Blier. Came out last year on UK R2. Fantastic.

My favorite, by far, was Talk to Her (OK, it's from 2002, but I saw it last year!) . I will, however, take a look at those mentioned above.

I'm assuming you mean newer Region 1 releases, and if so, here are some of the best of 2004:

Bon Voyage (France)
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring (Korea)
I'm Not Scared (Italy)
The Return (Russia)
Hero (China)
The Barbarian Invasions (Canada)

That's just off the top of my head though.

I assume we are talking only about R1 (otherwise I will upload a list of about 80 films I bought in the last 6 months) and recent productions....not classics.

Facing Windows (Italy) (see my signature...yes, I am biased)
The Return (Russia)
Time of the Wolf (France)
Monsieur Ibrahim (France)
Bon Voyage (France)
Since Otar Left (Georgia/France)...outstanding film
The Dreamers (Italy/France)
Intimate Strangers (France)....lovely Leconte.

some MUST HAVE's in the "free-world"

Black Cat, White Cat- One of my ALL-TIME top 10 (finally!!!!) Gorgeous Kusturica!
Bad Education (Almodovar....)
Non Ti Muovere (Italy)...love Castellitto...
Mon Homme (Blier...Barry White...Lanvin....outstanding)
Nathalie (strictly for fans of Beart)
Priom Amore-(Italy)
Take My Eyes (Spain)
Uzak (Turkey)....
Head On (Turkey/Germany)
Ricordati Di Me (Italy)

....and so on and so on......

Regards,
Pro-B

It would help to know what you have, so then we would know what you should get. The Decalogue and the Three Colors Trilogy are must-haves, but since they were released more than a year ago, nobody will mention them.

I thoroughly enjoyed Love Me If You Dare (Jeux d'enfants), it's from 2003 but didn't hit US theaters till the 04 summer. Also check out Valentín, and I always like recommending Irreversible (2003 release though) if one can handle it.
